Was I a fool to invest in Charisma?

I'm going to reiterate a point I made just a couple of points up. Charisma IS a personality stat, one of 3. Most people around here shouldnt take charisma as a stat because they are just aren't charismatic in the least...

Well i take that back, I'm sure plenty could try to run for leader of the Emo's, but i don't think that's tied to Charisma, more like the skills Wrist Cutting, Live Journaling, and Hair Dyeing(black).
I'm always right. I'm also a jerk. It's not my fault you can't get over the latter to see the former.

Hurray for Me!

Topic titles are like turn signals. They aren't for your benefit, but for the people around you.

I never said that Charisma doesn't have anything to do with personality. I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear enough. It -defines- part of your personality, how well it is viewed in the eyes of others. I just said that it doesn't say whether or not your character has personality.

People can't take a stat, they are stuck with them. That's D&D. They can not put points into it, if that's what you mean, but to ignore one of your stats ignores a decent part of D&D mechanics.

And as much as I hate emos as well, your second statement doesn't make sense to me. Charisma doesn't make you emo, though many take it that way, (unfortunately), and use it as an excuse to cry to me about their petty lives.

If this doesn't have anything to do with what you are typing, then there was a misunderstanding, and you thought I went against one of your points, even though I did not. What you quoted boils down to this:

Point A) Some people like to RP with Charisma.
Point B) People can RP without a high Charisma, as well.
Point c) People shouldn't get kudos for putting points into a stat.

Your arguement, as far as I understand it:

Point A) Charisma is a personality stat.
Point B) Some people can't RP charisma.
Point C) Emos are teh gay.

And, though I agree with all these points, they make little sense as a rebuttal to my statement. But, you are a friend, at least in my eyes. Anyone that can make fun of an emo is my friend. Enless they, like, rob me or something.

Personally i think it's worth commending someone for spending points on a stat that they "don't need" if they are doing it for RP reasons. You seem to think that we're saying that you need high CHA to RP. Thats not it at all. If you are RPing an insensitive buffoon (like The Raj :P), a high CHA wouldn't make sense at all. However, if you're going to RP someone who is likable, or perhaps a leader, or master of persuasion, it makes sense to have a high CHA. In this sense i think anyone who sacrifices some of the effectiveness of their character (from a strictly PvP or PvE point of view) or purposefully builds flaws into their "build" just to accurately represent the character's personality, earns themselves a kind of badge of honor in the eyes of other RPers.

People are praising you for doing this, and, not that this is wrong, but you can RP with low charisma, as well. Vincent has low charisma, and is generally a jerk to those few who have talked to him (I've only played a few days now).
I never claimed to be an RP demi god. In fact, I think those who choose to raise their Charisma or any other stats that do not directly benefit their PC's combat effectiveness in lieu of ones that do, deserve some credit because of the fact that they're probably doing so to build that character's concept, specifically for RP reasons; such is my case. It's just that my character isn't particularly PvP nor PvE effective, and I wanted an opinion as to whether or not it was an unwise choice to build him in this way.
Him: "Hey, my name is "blah!"
Me: *standing next to a rubbish bin, doing nothing* "Shut up and go away, I'm busy."

Charisma isn't your RP score, I'm trying to say. Just because you have points, doesn't mean you do it. It isn't a personality score (like, whether or not you have a personality), but a score of whether the way you present yourself is well received.
And I think most here understand that, clearly. Dasaria is an RP-centric server and probably always will be. I have come to realize that the combat is there to *enhance* the RP, not substitute for it. That's why I like it here. :)
But.

If you do RP it, then great. You're handsome, attractive in some exotic way, appealing to some, or a great drinking mate. (or, all four) Go you.
I've been trying to RP it. I just wish the Dasarian gods would smile upon Zahur once in a while when he's deep in a dungeon, by himself, wondering how the hell he's going to get back out. "But my Charisma score is 14! Can't I talk my way past these bugbears?!?"

Edit: Heh heh, pretty much mirroring coruscadragon's thoughts.

Hey, I'm just saying not to let it go through your head. I love to roleplay, games don't appeal to me if the players don't. It's just that I believe that you are getting un-due treatment for gaining charisma. It's just as important as any other stat, so what's the deal with being praised for making you character better? :? I'm not trying to make trouble, just make a point. Charisma is a stat, and that is that.

...wait, your character is a guy? Oh, then I've got to tell you a whole other completelly different story...
That last part: SOOOO . . . DARN . . . TRUE!

Oh and someone else said something about 14str.
My thoughts: I never take less than 14 STR on a PW simply for carrying capacity. Bank or no bank.

I wonder if, once the campaign starts, we will see DM-initiated skill and ability checks related to a particular situation...

That might throw a spoke in the wheels of some people's character perception as opposed to their actual character sheet ;)
I am not contrary!
