I've tried a tiefling wizard with a 20 in intelligence, and a half-elf with a 14 in intelligence - neither had any other language options other than common. The fact that a tiefling wouldn't be able to learn infernal seems absurd to me.

Don't know if anyone else is having this problem.

If languages are determined by your class and race, surely a half-elf would have some knowledge of elven at the very least? You would think.

Is this only for new characters, not existing?

and there are actually about 56 languages included in the mod...
Well we won't use them all... That's just what the DMFI put in there, many of them wouldn't even make sense, especially in a Dasarian context, but it's there to RP with if you like. Most of them are not selectable by players, so not to worry. There's about 18 available for selection, and for the most part, it's straight-forward D&D stuff like elven and dwarven.
Is this only for new characters, not existing?
See my post a few posts up. If you've an existing character, the tool will need to be re-initialized or I can just delete it off your character and it'll automatically be replaced with the new one. You'll automatically get assigned your race/class languages when you re-login plus you'll have an opportunity to select additional languages based on your INT.

The rules for language assignment are the PHB rules.

Elves and Half-Elves will automatically get Elven, Dwarves dwarven, etc. Outsiders are granted Celestial, Abyssal, or Infernal depending on their alignment.

The "bonus languages" you can select depend on your race, with humans having the most choices. Plus there's some bonus languages available by-class, like Sylvan for Druids, Cant for Rogues, etc..

I can't be the only one who finds this thing awesome, can I? Speaking of which, how does one "re-initialize" the dmfi tool? Can it be done in game?
Moreover, I advise that Carthage must be destroyed.

I do find it awesome, but I would expect to see more use of it when there's a... larger gathering of people in town, of mixed races. Which, with the coming of Nex Ut Proditor, I'd predict is fairly soon.

I'm all for leaving the tools in.

Found a bit of an annoyance when it comes to the languages. If you type something in Elven you can mark words or sentences with *your words here* and they will be said in common when you hit enter. This is great for names and such.

The problem lies in the fact that if you include a * in your text the DMFI will search that text for an emote and play it out for you.

An example would be -

(Typing in the elven language box) "*Stormrunner* sends his greetings."

Text visible to everyone "*Stormrunner* laawla irela vmaaaelvla."

And the character plays his "Hello, I greet you!" animation and sound.

It's a minor inconvenience, but still a flaw in this otherwise quite awesome program.
Moreover, I advise that Carthage must be destroyed.

Glad you're enjoying it!

Unfortunately I'm not going to update this thing, it's insanely complicated, moreover it only recently started being actively maintained again. To provide feedback, your best bet is the DMFI homepage which can be found here. If it breaks, I'll file a bug report, but we'll either have to wait for a fix, disable it, or live with it.

But you do highlight another neat feature. Even if you're speaking in common, typing something like:

*bows stiffly* A pleasure to meet you.

in your sentence will automatically cause your character to bow. There should be a list of available emotes if you examine the description of the DMFI tool in your inventory.

None of my old chars have the ability to speak anything but common.

Last night, a new phoenomenon occurred: I have the DMFI thingy in my back pack, but the options at the top of the screen, IE to make various rolls and to activate my language bar are no longer there. In the past, you could right click on your char to make these things come and go, now i dont have them at all, and when I right click my char there are no options whatsoever.

Any ideas?

Have you updated to the new DMFI 1.10? The server has upgraded so I doubt the old version works anymore. Here is the thread with the update:

Thracius Trueblade - Paladin of Tyrak
Celanduil Idrios - Master Craftsman of the Order of the Diamond
Erik Whitefang - Battlepriest of Tharon
Archos Arkadios - Wandering swordsman

The old version still works fine, but if you installed MotB it gets broken and you have to mess with your .ini file there's a workaround involved.

The new version works fine with MotB.

I have resolved this issue somewhat.

Thanks to those who tried to help.

Regarding Languages for Existing Characters:

There is a change that needs to happen on the server to clear the language settings for existing characters (actually it will reset everyone's settings).

If your existing character is just desperate to join his/her gibberish-speaking friends in the interim, send me a tell in game and I will delete the existing DMFI tool off your tongue-tied character. You'll automatically receive a new tool upon relogin, which will allow you to obtain class/race languages and select any bonus languages.

Regarding Upgrading your DMFI files:

Remember to delete your old files, un/re/installation instructions are included in the RAR.

I have the new DMFI turned on for one character but not the others. Is there any way to enable it for all of the characters in my account?

When the server restarts next, everybody's languages should be reset.

What happens if we increase our INT during levelup and our modifier rises? Do we get another language? And will it be automatically added, or will we have to contact a DM to reset the DMFI tool again?

I don't know.

I doubt you'll have an RP reason to take increasingly obscure ones, but I can always reset an individual's tool. Just ask me if that day ever comes.
