New Roleplayer

Post by Merwood »

After receiving a email from robert harris i like to join dasaria 2 because roleplaying is encouraged here but not enforced which led me this server

As for what character and class to play i usually am most comfortable playing a fighter of the following alignments Neutral Good , Chaotic Good , Neutral .

Now robert has told me the unicque campaign setting would be very challenging for a paladin , I do like a challenge but because i am so new to roleplaying and really only know the basics i'm worried that roleplaying a paladin would be too much off a challenge especially their alignment is Lawful Good.

Regardless i'm asking for the community's help in this regard as like i said before i very much like challenges hehe , Other then that i like to know how active is the server on a daily basis , How many active guilds are there and Upon making a character and a background which guild would be ideal for me to join :)

Again i look forward to playing here and hav many fun filled adventures

Hi Merwood and welcome. There are a number of player factions, though I'm not aware of any overtly that a Paladin could fit comfortably in. Though, I'm sure that something out their probably exists pushing a lawful good agenda in this lawful evil driven campaign.

As for others, there is The Order of the diamond (a crafting guild).

(Religious Guilds)
The Church of Lochwar.
The Brotherhood of Scales.
Probably many others I'm forgetting to mention though I'm sure others will be able to fill you in.

A player guard faction - The Cerulean Fleet.
A Mages Guild.

I've heard of private run companies or two, including a mercenaries guild.
A number of shady organizations.

The server has been more active from all the good press. Though I can only speak for my playing time later at night Pacific Standard. We do have players who come together from all over the world. I'd say we average around 6-12 normally with higher numbers in the 20s during holidays, planned events, or when everyone randomly decides to play.

A full blown paladin would definitely be difficult to play, but not altogether impossible. Nick is a paladin, and he's in the Cerulean Fleet.

Also, you might want to remember that although the empire is evil, not every organization affiliated with/directly serving it is.

I agree with Nick. The sky's the limit, really.

The CF is interesting—I'd term it as Lawful Neutral in spirit, however some of the Laws they might be compelled to enforce are evil, while others are good. Orders from superior officers might also be construed as malignant, while the average patrol officer is good-natured, or at the least, neutral.

Basically, there are many ways to pull off an alignment that appears difficult. Start slow, get acclimatized into the community, and you'll find a great way to pull it off. :)

Do a bit of research on the deities and decide whom your paladin gets his powers from. Then adjust his philosophical view to match that of the chosen deity and jump in game.

And i suggest that you try to find out about any potential guilds IC, so that if there aren't any you might as well start one yourself and try to bring like minded characters together. It might be hard to find other paladins in hiding, or then it might not. I bet you'll have fun, although i agree that playing a paladin in a LE environment is fundamentally different from playing in LN or LG environment. eg, you can't always expect the law to be behind your own ideology about justice and all that :)

I like to thank everyone for their help and input so far in this thread and although i still think it will be a challenge to play a paladin in a lawful evil type setting i think it spells for alot of fun .

And because i think there is a great community here not to mention that roleplaying is not so heavily enforced i have decided to play a paladin i still have no doubt it will be a challenge to roleplay him better but i'm confident with the right research i can manage okay .

But just as a request and this is all ooc of course i would like the community to give me constructive criticism and feedback to help me improve and again thank you for all the info :)

P.S. In terms of my play times i'm generally on from 6 pm est till late and as for the weekends i'm generally on saturdays and sundays unless away with the family and such

Welcome!

IMHO a Paladin is very doable here. I'm not saying preach in the streets, which might be foolish, but what better place for one? Perhaps here are those that are looking for a sign from another?

I have a paladin. It puts you slightly at odds with a lot of typical 'Varanite' characters, but there are plenty of others on Dasaria who will share a similar viewpoint to you.

The main problem is that you'll often face moral dilemmas where you must choose between doing the legal thing, and doing the right thing (wow, this almost sounds like real life). However, for me, that's one of the things that makes it interesting to play a paladin on dasaria.

My paladin believed that Varana was corrupt and evil (wow, he was pretty much spot on), and although he believed that laws make society a better place, he didn't necessarily agree that all of the laws the Varanites made were good ones. Just because he is lawful doesn't mean he will blindly follow every single law anyone makes without ever questioning it. If he did that, then he would be Lawful Neutral (and a pretty extreme LN at that). However, in general he was willing to accept most of their laws, as the majority of Varanite decrees are designed to simply keep the peace and prevent anarchy from breaking out in towns.

The most interesting part will be choosing your god. I recommend you read the background information here on the forums before you make your choice.
