A Lottery

Again, two official looking gentlemen parade through the docks. An old man waves to them up the street. While the most dandily dressed gentleman exchange some words with the old man, the other proceeds to tack a piece of paper to the door, as if having done this ritual dozens of times. When done speaking with the old man, the gentleman begins to ring a large handbell and cries out.

"Listen all, listen all! As by request by the proprietor, Gerald Ironwood, the domicile behind me shall be put up as a lottery's prize. This event shall be managed by Imperial Office of Private Lands and Taxes."

"The domicile up for the lottery is located in the Imperial Docks, at the very center of the district."

"The lottery will begin immediately and will last exactly 4 days, after which the winner will be announced. A ticket may be collected from Gerald Ironwood, free of charge.

Subsequent tickets are available at the Ministry of Commerce with respective fees; a second ticket's fee amounts to five thousand imperial Emperors (5'000gp), a third for twenty-five thousand (25'000gp), a fourth for a hundred thousand (100'000gp) and a fifth for five hundred Imperial Crowns (500'000gp).

All tickets must be registered with the buyer's name and submitted to the Imperial Office of Private Lands and Taxes (post your character's full name and the number of bought tickets in this thread). Each person signs with one name only and as per request from Gerald Ironwood, only the roofless may take part in the lottery (no previous auction winners may buy a ticket). A winning ticket found to be invalid will be subject to an administration fee. Once the lottery is completed, the new owner will be notified and proceedings will begin to transfer ownership."

"All other inquiries in regards to this lottery also must be made in writing (PM me) to the Imperial Office of Private Lands and Taxes."

Adileus's assistant rings the bell and announces.

"Only five hours to go until the lottery's conclusion, ladies and gentlemen!"

Sythe approaches, while hurrying a bunch of seven poor looking, foul smelling humans in front of him.

"Hello, sign me and these good hardworking people up for a free one each. I'm Sythe.. and this is Isabell, Knut, Kragner, Molly.. eh, no Frida right?.., Filla, Pete and Mark"

All seven looks at Sythe as they seem to take note of every single word. The guy named Knut falls to his knees while clutching his left side, but Sythe rushes to his aid and pulls him to his feet again. Knut seems to shiver.

"Uh.. just look at this guy. Does he deserve a roof on top of that fragile body or what!?!!"

"He even got stabbed a couple of hours ago. Just because he is homeless!! No worries!, I'll help them all. And give Kunt here medical aid right after I've helped him sign up. He is so afraid to miss a free ticket.."

The assistant looks Sythe up and down. He drops his feather leisurely over a scrap of paper.

"I'm afraid to say that since the dark elven kind has yet to be given right to the varanite citizenship, the Ministry of Trades and Commerce cannot begin a legal exchange of property rights in your name. This right is available to your... companions only. However, since your companions belong to the supreme and dominating race of our Empire, they are granted the right to represent the interests of one of the lesser races. This policy is often adopted by masters and their thralls. Would you call one of them the proprietor of your thraldom thus allowing your inhabitancy in his or hers household?"

The assistant looks then down at the wounded man with repulse.

"If a single bloodstain filths the floor here, I will feel obliged to charge you all for damage of imperial property and contributed collaboration for the deed...", the assistant readies his feather and looks to Sythe,"Did I get your name?"

"..yes, ehh.. yes you did."

Sythe's whole body stiffens on the spot, by the words the assistant. Just as it was about to lounge at the man's throat.. how sweet it could be. But he couldn't let it. No foolish honor is worth loosing a house, less his life, over.

"..but as my master here says all the time, my voice is best not heard"
"So I tend to mutter!"

Sythe puts Knut's arm around his neck as to comfort his upright position. And at the same time pulls Knut's coat tight, to hinder the wound from Sythe's blade from spilling blood on the floor.

"This good good man here, is indeed here to sign for me also. Such is his mercy, that he has even introduced me to his family. That I can never forget! So I helped him get here by his will, even though he should lay and heal at the temple."

"But here I go again.. letting my voice be heard. Master Knut, You can sign now! And allow me to bring you to a healer"

Knut kept getting paler by every word, but with a sudden force pulled his arm away from Sythe. He walked up The assistant. In pain but focused. The images of his family in such pain, gave him strength to fulfill what Sythe had made him and the six others promise. To sign and get the tickets. The drow was culnul in the flesh, and he only had pain to offer. But for some reason had his eye on that property.

"Yes.. yes, thats true.. where do we sign?" Knut couldn't help but thinking what would happen, if his ticket was the lucky one. Praise the Gods if it wasn't.
