Some questions

Post by drnaphtali »

Hello guys. I am new to Dasaria (my current character is the half-orc Dirk), and NWN2 as a matter of fact. Bought it a long time ago but never bothered playing. I used to be a big fan of NWN1 and all its expansions though, and loved playing it online.

Anyways, my questions:

1) Please explain exactly what the "In the Meanwhile" is. Is it just a role-playing forum, that happens in the imagination of people...or is it a recap on what actually happened on the server...or any info on it is usefull.

2) In an RP sense, how do you handle death on the server. If someone kills you, how do you explain comming back immediately and talking to that person again planning your revenge etc...

Totally random I know...

1) "In the Meanwhile" forum is for stories that are meant to be taking place at the current moment in game. It is an easy way to handle character interaction, especially when the players happen to be in different timezones making an in game meeting near impossible. Also its easier to role-play certain actions as we are not limited to the game mechanics on the forum.
2) Most just assume that for whatever reason the gods have decided that either our character isn't worthy for the after-life punishment/reward. Or some good Samaritan found our corpse and dragged it back where the priesthood of our respective gods prayed for the return.

Some folks also role play losing as defeat rather than death.

Hello, and Welcome!

Indeed Meanwhile... is a roleplaying / collaborative fiction forum, it can be the continuation of things that happened in the game, or just involve characters from the game. If you post in Meanwhile..., you are inviting others to participate with you, supposing their character happens to wander onto the scene, should it take place in the sort of location in which they might reasonably appear. There are some basic rules, mostly common sense, e.g., only you decide the actions and fate of your own character in the story.

Things affecting the Campaign or directly impacting character storylines generally take place in-game. The possible exception are DM posts, especially in Rumors, which may be used to inform players of developments around the gameworld.

Tales and Stories is for fiction, generally by a single author. They can involve in-game characters or just be stories about Dasaria. Sometimes groups of players work together on stories, but you should ask before joining a Tales and Stories thread.

Death is generally treated as being knocked unconscious and left for dead, you've some license as to how you want to RP it. We're not so hardcore here that any death is considered to be an actual or permadeath, though permadeath is possible in the scheme of DM-led storylines. There is a modest XP and gold loss penalty for utilizing the respawner, this is an OOC mechanism to keep some sting in death and prevent players from acting in ways that would be irrational for the character (such as wantonly sacrificing their little lives). You could suppose your opponents or another dungeon-crawler dragged your body to the exit and maybe went through your pockets if it pleases you, but it's not something we've agonized over RP-wise.

We don't PvP much here, but because we are a full PvP server and the activity is accepted as long as there are roleplayed reasons for the combat, you should definitely review Server Rules and PvP ruleset to see how honorable death is treated in those circumstances.

Thank you for the replies! Makes alot of sense!

Another question I have is...how much of a roll does skills take part on the Dasarian server? Do the DM's ever look at what skills the character chose to determine what his character is like (Say for example, he has lots of Lore skills or intimidate etc.)

I am talking about the less common skills, just the role playing skills.

And also, is it usefull to have extremely high spot and listen checks?

The DMs make skill checks regularly. Skill checks are also used in some of the static quests, even the "role playing skills". High spot and listen checks are useful for detecting those rogues that are trying to stab you in the back.

And not only do the DMs make use of those skills, the static quests make use of those skills.

Next two questions:

1) What is the world's view on Drow?

2) I confronted a character (he said I made fun of him, he was drow though) who was a lot weaker than me. The person then relogged with another character who was about my level (I'd guess, he was rated very difficult) and then defended the drow (just verbally, but it seemed that he was trying to initiate combat). The other character wasnt even drow. How should this obvious meta-gaming be handled?

Re-logging a different character in this situation is a clear violation of the server rules. Please inform an in-game DM of the details, or PM them to me.

As to your question about the milieu, we don't really even have "Drow" in the forgotten-realms sense, though that is to acknowledge that people are just going to use "Drow" and "Dark Elves" interchangeably (kinda like "Kleenex"). However, the presence of Dark Elves is accepted in Varanite society, though Varanite Humans (who consider themselves the highest born race) and especially other types of Elves will definitely look sidelong and mistrusting at them.

Additional player-submitted background lore about the Dark Elves in Dasaria can be found here: HERE.
