Who are you?

Post by Jimmy »

With the large amount of new players entering the realm and of Dasaria I thought i'd make up a thread whereby everyone can tell a bit about themselves to help us gel more as a tight community. This is also for the oldies too as I have no idea what's been going on in everyone's lives over the past 2 years of me not playing.

This is of course entirely optional. Include as much or as little information as you'd like.

I'm James Kelton and have been living in Avalon, Sydney for most of my life. I'm 21 and started playing on Das in late 2002 with Oose and have subsequntly brought the Cheeseman over to the dark side as well as "majawi", "thephotoshop" and my brother ".tk".

Since my brief stint at uni studying Astrophysics (lasted 5 weeks baby!) 2 years ago i've pretty much just been working in a crappy supermarket (Woolworths) as an assistant department manager and managed to move out from my parents place into a unit where I really should be charging the bastards I mentioned above rent as they pretty much hang out here more than me, eat all my food and play countless hours of Smash Brothers on the Gamecube. But that's all good as Smash rules too hard.

Been a console gamer most of my life, beginning with the SNES and all the way up to the Wii as soon as it come out. Randomly decided to play NWN after a school teacher of mine said how good it was. Found Das and was hooked instantly. All you ladies and gents out there introduced me to the world of RPing and i'm haven't looked back since. Nothing is as immersive and rewarding as playing with you folks.

Been playing soccer/football for 13 years and was asked to step up into the Premier League division of my soccer club last season which was pretty sweet and bloody hard also. I play the alto sax and used to play in a local band called "Sound Kitchen", but we've subsequntly broken up and are now pretty much a group of drinking buddies, hehe.

Been learning a style of Kung Fu known as Yong Chun Pai for about two and a half years now. Been enjoying it so much that it's lead on to my fascination with the human body and chinese medicinal techniques and have applied to go and study Traditional Chinese Medicine at UTS (University of Technology Sydney) next year. Hooray! I i've finally found some direction! Just gotta hold out working full time at my crappy job for another couple of months and all shall be sweet. Yes, retail sucks harder than anything :P.

Currently single, but just started seeing an awesome chick I work with. And with any luck I won't stuff it up, haha. In a couple of hours the lads and I will be off to see Jimeoin live at one of our local RSL clubs which is going to rule. And yes, I do love my standup along with Fantasy, Sci Fi and all the other awesome geeky things out there.

Peace out.

That's some awesome accomplishments mate :)

I'll go next I suppose... My names Jared Taylor, I live in New Zealand (Auckland) and I'm 19. During my child hood i grew up all over the country, mostly in the southern parts, longest I stayed in one place would of been 3 years (5-8 ) in a small town south of Invercargill where we had a small farm, loaded with berry bushes, pine trees, moonfilled nights, baby cows me and my brother played rodeo on (to our mother's extreme annoyance), and the ducks that got their butts glued ot the ice in winter when their pond froze over during the night. Been in Auckland for about 11 years now. Left school at 15 unfortunately due to being sick, but all better now ;)

As for my general interests, I used to do nothing but read and write all day... wrote some amazing pieces (no longer have any of them ._. if i wanted i know i could find them again... my interest and inspiration died out of nowhere), found AMAZING music that i pretty much lived to get up and listen to the next day, developed a real passion for the good oldies... read some amazing books, at the top are bryce courtenay's power of one, tandia (read in THAT order if you ever do!), jessica, matthew flinder's cat... most emotionally moving / motivational books, i hate to admit it but i almost cried during some of those lol... Always loved martial arts, never really had the chance to learn, i had a lot of rich experiences in my life, unfortunately can't say the same for money lol. Moved out for 7 months, then moved back in with my dad and brother quite recently... life is good :)

As for my gaming/computing history I had never seen a computer until I was 11 years old, and my dad bought home a $2000 computer... a 486 haha. From that day on, he spent months telling me to get off the computer, until eventually he simply gave up... during that time i got deeply involved in 3d animation, web design, and scripting (mostly web design focused scripting)... hated programming...... when I was 16 after I left school I did a computer software/hardware technician related courses, was passing with flying colors then got sick again lol. I started gaming online I think when I was 13 and free internet (dialup) was released in NZ for a short time, until it got banned, and then we came up with the money for paid internet. Astonia III I played for over 4 years, I still logon to talk to very dear friends of mine whom still play. World of Warcraft for 1.5-2 years, sold my account. NWN for 6 months since release, until I got banned from my server (not my fault, lol). Been playing Battlefield 2142, EVE Online.. and now NWN2!!

Now my NWN history fits here too I suppose :) I played on a server called "Come to lalaland", was an awesome persistent world, played there since release, made some amazing friends, I remember when the first expansion was released, wasnt coming out in new zealand for a couple of months, so my friend actually bought it for me (without telling me), I was so damn happy lol. Well, long story short, me and a warlock friend were online (no one else, go go pacific time zones), the dungeon master logged on and we talked for a bit, he said he was going afk for an hour then doing a server restart. Since no one else was on, me and my friend demolished the entire starting town, along with an insanely overpowered golden dragon (i was a gnome monk, he a gnome warlock, we were both very drunk ingame and rl), but wasnt immortal, it took us a good 45 mins but we killed him... Dungeon Master was NOT impressed, although find it extremely amusing.

Well, lets say the story he posted made me famous for the entire server's life... Friends kept in touch and told me in extreme amusement how the server was still talking about it lol. Now if that isn't RP in the making, I don't know what is!

Anywayyyyy, look foward to meeting the rest of you, sorry for my ramblings haha.

This is a neat idea, Jimmy.

My name is David William, and I was born in British Columbia, Canada. I am 19 years old. I've moved around a fair bit, and that can be attributed to my father, who is in the RCMP.

I have a sister, Shara (who is known as Rheia here) and a new brother-in-law, Tim (who is known as Druas). Both are playing Das2. :D

I've lived in several locations across B.C., in Southern Ontario and finally in Nova Scotia, where I'm currently living. I'm attending Acadia University and am enrolled in a Bachelor of Art's program. I'm studying History.

I've held two jobs in my short stint in the workforce—A Staples Computers Associate and a Pump Attendant at a local gas-station. I can vouch that both jobs sucked.

After I've concluded my education, I will be applying to join the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. After that, who knows!

Short an' sweet.

Rob. 28. English until 2 years ago when I moved to Kiwi. gettin married next year to awesome chick. only rp has ever been on Das and a mighty fine place/people it is/has too.
When I'm not on there I've dabbled in SoF2 and BF2. Cycle, climb and kayak (last 2 sporadically) and will have a tear at any sport if theres a spot open, swam for my county, was jujitsu brown belt back in the day, play with photoshop and like to take photos.
been to a fair few places around the world with work, on holiday and travellin - all in all, people all over are cool, so why all the nonsense aye?
Avid smoker until 3 years ago when I got it hypnotised out of me (no I don't know if it works, but as long as its kiddin me that I don't need to smoke then I'll aknowledge it).
Drank myself out of uni and into a world of debt and crap jobs (sweet factory, post handler on night shifts, etc) then got into computers cos I had to have something relevant to emigrate. Now I'm a cisco bloke (not for cisco) and looking forward to the day when I can ditch it for something that interests me but pays just as well.
I don't feel any shame, I won't apologise

My name is Matt and I live in Oklahoma City. No, not in a teepee.

I am 34 years old. I have a wife named Britt and a four-year-old son named Josef, who is the light of my life and my greatest instructor. My beautiful wife played D & D long before I met her, although she prefers the cyberpunk genre to fantasy. I think it has to do with hair-styles. I've played video games all my life, ever since the Atari Pong™ required one to tape a clear plastic screen on thier TV.

I was an art major, but I work now as a Surgical Assistant. How I managed to migrate from art to healthcare I'll never know. I occasionally find the time to do drawings based on Fantasy RPGs and share them with the community. I write here often, as Dasaria is what first inspired me to write. I am thankful for that gift of inspiration.

I've been a member of the Dasaria community for four years now. I've been popular, unpopular, gracious, a fool, a friend and an enemy to this community and server in that time, yet I am still here. What that means, I suppose, is that I love the place and have earned some measure of respect from Dasaria's veterans. I could not imagine playing anywhere else. I have learned so much from other players here, about writing, role-playing and, believe-it-or-not, wisdom. I relish encouraging other players to play the game-within-the-game. I've met several players here in real-life, and found them to be just as kind and bright as anyone I have ever met.

In the previous age, I played a martyred Paladin, a misplaced Ronin, a malcontent burglar, and a dog. Yes, I played a dog. He could pwn you like a carpenter owns a hammer.

I freely admit to playing WoW for over a year. That game is the perfect reverse-barometer on role-playing ability. Pretty doesn't necessarily mean better, just as length doesn't equal depth.

I began playing Dungeons and Dragons back when it was called AD&D. I was ten. I've seen all manner of play-styles and character types in 24 years, so I tend to be opinionated with regard to what techniques I have seen work and seen fail. Because of this, I'll often sound arrogant in my posting, but I prefer to think of it as 'discriminating taste.' I'm all about role-assumption and story. I am not impressed by min/maxed characters nor players who present thier characters without depth or dimension. I find myself more-and-more annoyed by Drow characters, mostly because I witnessed the most perfect presentation of Drow personality I have ever experienced back in Dasaria I by a magnificent player. Sorry, but she's spoiled it for you. I have met my one-in-a-million Drizzt, and he was thoroughly evil. The ability to portray a convincing and consistent personality is, to me, the ultimate sign of a talented Role-Player.

I hope you find Dasaria as rewarding as I have.

My name is Tinea, I'm a giant magic moth and I live in Powderwood in Flutterland. I'm nearly three months old and have twenty sisters and brothers. When I was very young, I ate and ate and ate and then I made my cocoon and turned into a pupa! After that I came out and fluttered around, then bought a computer and a copy of NWN2! So here I am, hello!

*And now you get smacked with a rolled up newspaper* Moths are so icky! Plus they'll eat your cloaks...

Name is Shane. Currently live in the Washington DC area. Am in the US Coast Guard and work at the Navigation Center. (http://www.navcen.uscg.gov)

Currently working on a BS in Game Software Design and Development. If it wasn't for the 60 hour work weeks and school I'd be really digging into the NWN2 toolsuite.

I played a bit in the original Desaria as a Lawful Evil Cleric of Lochwar (well the orginal name).

I've been playing DnD for over 6 years now and getting ready to start a Eberron Campaign that will cover the Next War.

Other then that... think thats it... there is more but can't think right now have a C++.net quiz and a trig assignment to do.

My name is Jeanette and I live in Northern Virginia. I am a Technical Editor for a small (less than 20 employees currently) Engineering Research and Development company who does a bunch of contracts for the Navy, Air Force, NSF, NASA, etc. I technically am the one they go through to get their proposals out, edited for correct grammar and attempt to be on time (which means I normally see the papers the day they're due and rarely before).

I have lived in Northern Virginia (Manassas) for practically all of my life. The only time I didn't I was in Greenville, North Carolina for college at East Carolina University. There I got a BA in English (concentration creative writing) and a minor in classical studies.

I had always been an "in the closet" gamer. it would only break out once in a while when I would get addicted to a game (roller coaster tyccon, mario kart, zuma, etc.) for a little while and then get bored after a while. I never roleplayed until Dasaria 1 and NWN1. One could say that it was "Falson's fault" that I got pulled into the gaming world a little more full-fledged, but it really was just me not holding myself back anymore.

In Dasaria, I came rather late in the game (july 2005) but I played a sorceress named Jae and a paladin of Ishtar (old name) named Ariadne. I don't believe my characters were really all that well known, but if they are remembered then there's who I was in the game.

After getting into Dasaria I have also been introduced to pen and paper DnD 3.5. I've gotten pretty well into it, and have played characters ranging from a lawful good cleric, a psychotic good shugenja with concentration problems with her magic, to a nearly "chaotic evil" executioner from the Monte Cook d20 game called "Iron Heroes". Lately I have been going through the main campaign of NWN2 (i hope to finish it before I get really involved in Dasaria 2). It's easier for me to get into this game in my opinion, already knowing the system pretty well. I can't play any other online or on console roleplaying games as easily.

I've also taken up reading rather good fantasy novels. I am a big fan of the Dragonlance series and a couple co-workers and friends have gotten me into reading the Wheel of Time series. The later isn't quite as good as the former, but it is interesting. Keeps the downtimes at work less boring (since my lovely job doesn't let me have internet at my desk computer for some reason).

I intend to be playing a few different characters for Dasaria 2. My first is named Terya Pyrobi, and she is a ranger. For further information, stay tuned to the Tales and Stories threads.

That is the short summary of who I am. For a story more in length, stay tuned for my published work.

I'm Kim. 24 years of age. I play male bastards mainly, but like thinking I'm actually a pretty nice girl. I like partying, drinking, smoking, gaming, dying my hair, black candles, pink fluffy handcuffs, mysticism, wiccan and paganism, I love irony and morbid things. I'm a graphic designer, I'll be starting as a professional graphic designer on the 1st of December at a rather large computer sales and development company in my hometown of Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

I mainly troll at the moment, but who knows I'll be joining the fun at some point. I'm not done yet with NWN1.

My name is David, I'm an old fart.. er.. 40 years old and I live in Sonoma County, California. I'm currently unemployed (Damn local work market is hit hard here) so I spend a LOT of time building and playing Dasaria. I've held a variety of jobs, nothing spectacular. Mostly warehouse work.

I, like Matt, began my video game career with pong. My first console was Atari 2600™ (Adventure FTW!). I went through all the Nintendos up until PS1, then got PS2. Console games ended when I got my 1st computer and got into online gaming. I started with RTS games, then I got heavily into TFC. After a year or two of TFC I heard about a game called Neverwinter Nights from a friend we'll call LoFang. One day, after beating the OC, I was wandering through the different PW servers. I hopped onto one called "Dasaria". Game Over. Or rather, Dasaria took over. I've been playing Das, on and off, since August of 2002.

Durring my break from Dasaria I've played Shadowbane (*Shudder*), Lineage 2 (*Double Shudder*), Guild Wars, and WoW. I really love WoW, but, like all things, I burned out on it. Fortunatly for me it was preorder time so I got the toolset and got back in touch with my good friends at Team Dasaria.

And I'm DAMNED glad to be back!

That's about it!
If you build it, they will come.

Loved that game! Could probably call that my first "RPG", if such it could be called. Great fun until FF1.
