The clothing and armour choices are more parallel to medival times, as compared to earlier time periods, simply because most suits beyond the more simple armours weren't invented yet. Mail of any kind was thought to be invented about 500 BCE (By the Celts, and used often by Romans), while mostly plated armours weren't invented until 13th- 15th century CE, although many vulnerable body areas were plated earlier on. The romans for example were most famous for using the
Lorica Hamata. In short, since we have things better then mail armour, it would make sense that we are closer to medival times.
Pre-Medival times clothing varied alot, from the robes and togas of rome, to skins of Germania, very light clothing in Mesopotamia, and in Egypt alot of the people didn't wear clothes at all. But in Medieval periods, most of the clothing was made from wool, and later linen and hemp. Linen is quite lightweight, and is often used in undergarments and shirts because it is lightweight. Although, likely pants would be made of wool or leather as they are tougher. Still for city clothing, likely they would be made from linen or hemp, as few people wanted their nice clothing to be heavy and hot, but their work clothing would be thicker.
So in short, likely the clothing we have would be made from linen, lightweight, so 10 pounds of linen would be the equivalent of probably somewhere between 5-10 shirts. Thus thats half your warddrobe, not just one shirt and pants. Besides, for weaker folk this hurts alot if they want to roleplay with cloth, as cloth serves virtually no other purpose. The only two classes restricted to cloth for the most part are Sorcerers and Wizards, and they have much better robes to be wearing. If you have a weak class such as a warlock, bard, rogue, ranger, or divine caster, they'll likely have mediocre strength, and 10 pounds can be alot. I know from playing Hyel that having an extra cloth on hand would be a tenth of his carry weight before first encumberance, which defeats the purpose of him carrying it, since that cuts heavily into what he can pick up without a buff to strength.
