New Character

Hi everyone. I've fiddled around for a few days on the server (Some of you might have seen me on as Rakhar or Dakhar) and I'm putting the finishing touches on my character design. Unless something drastic happens in RP I'm planning on going (human) Bard 1, Divine Champion 1, Fighter 8, RDD 10. I know I want my character to lean towards Chaotic Good, and I want him to be somewhat of a defender...full plate, tower shield, no spells... The Divine Champion level is purely for flavor, and the Bard level is to unlock RDD and also to lend credit to a high diplomacy skill.

I'm waiting for my silly test Rakhar to get deleted so I can start in on this (I'm attached to the name) and I was wondering which deity I should go with. Divine Champion doesn't force a deity selection so I'll have to choose my deity at level 1 or not have one. I was looking at Tharon (Marduk) --- "Sometimes called the Arch-Warrior, Marduk is epitome of great soldier. None is more great in the workings battle than he." --- and he seems the obvious choice for my character. He seems more centered on battle than protection though, and while the two can be seen as linked I was wondering if there were any other good options RP-wise before I locked into my choice.

Are there any factions or groups that would welcome a character like mine? Would that affect my deity selection? I enjoy RP but still like to log in sometimes and just kill things for a while. I do still have plenty of reading to do on the setting. (I wasn't sure how well RDD would fit in on this server, but I see no notes on the Playable Classes post...there *aren't* any problems with playing RDD are there?)


Sorry for the long post. Feedback on deity / faction or group / character in general appreciated.

Tharon/Marduk is an excellent choice for a martial-focused character. If you're looking for other options, however, what about your character's past? Whereabouts is he from? Mountains? Plains? Forest? Coastal area? Were his parents involved in some sort of trade of craft that could be identified with a god?

As for factions, the sky is the limit really. I would say it depends on where you want to take your character. You may wish to get a feel for which groups are active, the direction they're taking, and if your character's goals and personality mesh.

Well, my current thoughts on personality are in line with Good alignment, very martial (as you noted), good natured with good diplomacy skills although not as naturally charismatic as others. A good talker but not a leader. Most important to me is a strong sense of empathy and desire to protect his friends and others.

As to background, I'm still reading the campaign info to see if anything would apply there.

For purely a protection focus, Ineania/Enki offers something of that, as one of her domains in Protection, but based on your concept, I'd say go with Tharon/Marduk.

As for player based factions, the two that come to mind are the Cerellian Fleet and Argentum Vigilo. The Fleet is more neutral and based around upholding the IC laws of the Empire and such. The Argentum Vigilo is a Knightly Order set up by the Prince to be, basically, a goody-two-shoes brigade, tasked with keeping the roads safe, rallying the people again and taking the fight to Canas.

There are also positions in Church's that require security/protection roles. The new Peralian Church requires guards, and the Lochwar church welcomes new members as well. Just make sure you contact the proper people, many groups are open to new members.

Although, you could just bring your character online, play him, interact with people and join the group you think best fits your character's personality. Or you don't even need a group, and just be known by everyone as it is.

Thanks for the advice. Just finished reading up on the campaign storyline (both IC and OOC accounts) and I'm digging around a bit more. The storyline is very interesting.

The Church of Lochwar is open for new members. And your build and thought of a protector would work nicely, but the alignment would not. Good-aligned often have troubles playing a devoted follower of Lochwar. We are about Power, deciet and vengeance... I would have to agre with Preginus - you would fit very well in the Cerellian Fleet or Argentum Vigilo. But even so my door stand open if you consider going down a darker road...
