XP Rewards reduced?
I haven't had much time to play in the last month or so, but I decided to start a new character yesterday. It looks like the XP rewards have been reduced pretty drastically (cut down to only about 20% of what they used to be). My level 1 Wizard got exactly 1 XP for killing a Vampire in Marak's house, which seemed a bit low considering that I have only 6 hit points and can die from 1-2 lucky hits! Alco the XP rewards for killing the wolves and boars near the gates seemed low.
Is this a serverwide change?

Come now, those Vampires are patsies!
That quest is designed to give you the XP for completing the basic tasks as an intro quest, not to obtain phat XP for slaying a vampire which automatically wilts if you manage to hit it. Nonetheless, I will look at the challenge rating on them.
Many changes have been made to XP over the last several months, but nothing you'd be likely to notice as a player.

Re: XP Rewards reduced?
Those vampires killed my warlock, but the rest of the exp rewards from that quest more than made up for it. They're a bit hard to hit with a -1 ab modifier, but the real threat's the burning chicken.
Re: XP Rewards reduced?
My halfling rogue had no problem with it starting out. After that I realized that was only due to his only getting the vampires 2 at a time, as intended I imagine. (2 near front door, others in the fire room) Both of my other characters since then ended up getting 4 vampires at once right at the door coming in. My fighter even dropped once there. I can see how a caster might have trouble with that, but really it's just the luck of the dice.
Really though, at the point you do that quest you have nothing to lose. Since that quest is denied you at level 3 or 4 you won't be doing it very many times even if you try. It does its job teaching you the ropes in typical light-hearted intro quest fashion.

Re: XP Rewards reduced?
I realize that Marak's quest is not made to get uber XP from "hunting," but I also noticed that the wolves and boars around Cear seemed to give less XP. So did killing Bugbears, so did killing Koalisk (with other characters). Maybe I've just been away too long, but it really seemed like XP rewards for killing stuff have been reduced.

Re: XP Rewards reduced?
I have, with my level 6 I used to get about double the EXP from killing Kalem as I do now, which makes it hardly useful to try and fight them since I don't get enough to counteract possible dieing. I've also noticed many quests giving less, such as Laugwarts head(100 less), the message in Aucklorn(50 less). I also noticed that wolves give about 3 to a level 4 or 5, compared to the 12ish they used to give, if I remember correctly. The higher level ones such as Laugwart aren't that bad, but the beginning ones make it very hard to level up since you can't do most of the quests on your own at that point.

Re: XP Rewards reduced?
Yes, we do occasionally make changes here you know.
Quest experience will bump around for balance tweaking based on changes to areas, addition of new quests, +100 here, -100 there, etc.
Kill experience can be diminished if you have an experience penalty due to your race/class combination. Other than that, when you're fighting a creature at your 'level' (CR actually), it's about the same as it always was.
Our customizations around kill experience generally relate to parties. Partying of like-or-close levels is rewarded. The opposite is penalized.

Re: XP Rewards reduced?
I was not in a party, and my character is non-ECL. That said, I seem to have recieved a very significant reduction in Kill XP (haven't noticed any Quest XP reduction yet).
Anyway I don't really care that much, I just wanted to know if there was an announcement I had missed, if all Kill XP had been reduced by half across the board, etc. etc. Of course I wish it would go back to how it was, but probably because that's what I'm used to.

Re: XP Rewards reduced?
Man, I don't know. Look at it from another angle: A drop in XP gain only helps your character's longevity as far as mechanic progression goes. Every dungeon/quest that is added to the module kinda bums me out because it's usually way below my main character's level range. It took me a little over a year to get Kadmiel to 20 and I still wish I wasn't all the way there -- I know some older characters that haven't even gotten there yet.

Re: XP Rewards reduced?
Hey, Phelan isn't to 20 yet and has been around as long as Kadmiel.
I think a lot of those zones have been retooled. There were announcements concerning adjusting areas towards lower levels, and I think those critters are some of those that were listed.
I could be wrong on that, though.

Re: XP Rewards reduced?
Hello all, being new here i can not comment on past XP rewards. However 1 area in particular in my opinion has very low xp. The beetle quest critters give very low xp for the danger involved. One kind of bettle in there that is quite common kills most of my toons in 1 or 2 hits yet gives the same xp as a boar ??
Also the quest itself gives a somewhat poultry amount of XP considering those in a similar level range and considering not only the above mentioned ease of death but the other conditions one has to battle while down there.
However all and all being new i have to say im really growing to love the server and all the detailed quests + the opportunities to RP or just go off on your own and hack'n'slash for a bit.

Re: XP Rewards reduced?
Just an update to this i can confirm that the Angela's ashes quest from Aukon mill is now worth 150 less xp then it was previously, not sure why.
Any chance that we could get a post about things like this changing ? kind of hard to keep up i have a lvl 14 druid and now a lvl 9 fighter rogue duelist and the xp changes since i started about 3 or 4 weeks ago are too numerous to keep up with.
Thanks

Re: XP Rewards reduced?
Today, my level 4 Elf Wizard decided to try to kill the bear near Sister Oriana. Being level 4, I only have 20 (4 x 5) hit point.
I cast some spells at the bear, entering combat, and did some damage to him for a few rounds. Then, he hit me ONCE--a critical hit for 26 points, killing me instantly. I respawned and was able to finish him off.
I lost 200 XP for respawning, and gained 30 XP for killing the bear. Perhaps things are working as intended, but I'd rather go back to the old way. 30 XP to risk your life against something that can kill you with one hit just doesn't seem worth it to me.

Re: XP Rewards reduced?
And you're leaving off the fact the quest for killing said Bear is worth more than you lost to death.
Most XP in Das2 is Quest based, not kill based. Sure, you can farm enemies for kills and XP, but that is usually significantly less than what you get from doing the quests.
