I ran NwN2 on my laptop which has a 64Mb Go 5200 card. Had to "fix" the registry, but it worked. 256, especially 512 on the GPU seems more than enough.

You may have RAM issues, but I think you just need to turn down some of that sparkle. Kill bloom and have point shadows on.
Yes sorry the rest of my system is....

Pentium 4 3.4Ghz Core Dual Core
2GB RAM
Geforce 7300 GS 256MB turbo-cached to 512MB
Sata drives e.t.c

With my resolution set to 1024x768 and all the graphics down in the basic settings aswell as the advanced...i still struggle to make 20FPS consistantly. It is almost as though the game is not being accelerated by the GPU /shrug

Not quite sure what point Shadows is.....

I built plenty of Dells for my clients, just added an extra Video card for games for them and they are happy.... Not sure what you mean not compatible?
i mean that they have PCI and PCI-e slots welded closed with a big "no acess" sticker on some models. they do this because it voids warrenty for some of the cheaper models.

for Dell to be cheap you need to order the graphics card with them and get them to install it. well in all cases i have seen this is what you need to do so you dont have a big padlock on your motherboard.

and it doesnt take a genius to see that purchasing a card from them, then buying a new one = expensive. only buy from dell if you dont plan on changing components yourself. dell is cheap because it never uses top of the range products/models and that is FINE but not for all of us.

Um. I just bought a $2300 Dell Computer (Christmas present, yes I love my parents very much), and it has one of the top of the line nVidia cards in it. You do have to install new drivers (something I don't ever want to do again, mind you) on their computers, because they might not be up to date, but all in all, I'm very happy with mine. I have an nVidia 7900 gs (this is from memory).. which is a very fine video card.

The 7900GS is a top car indeed, However for the same price Dell charged you, my bet would be you could have found a 7900GT which is miles ahead of th GS. However i am not going to turn this topic into a "Hating Dell" thread.

But in general you are best buying components seperately and putting it together yourself, or paying an online store to do it for you. This is by far the best way to get a system without huge bottle necks in certain areas.

what i'm going to do is (well most likely) buy a Gateway GT5228 and buy a nvidia 7900gt to put into the empty pci-e slot. and most likely buy a seperate, dedicated psu, b/c its going to be really tough to put in a new power supply when its latched onto the mobo (its only 300W and that 7900gt is going to take a lot of power), even though i've heard it can be done. in all about $800. maybe a wee more. that GT5228 comes with amd 4200 x2, 2 gig of memory, and more than enough harddrive. hopefully that will work, and if it doesnt.... then suicide is the next option. any suggestions/comments?

My comp is a Dell that I bought two years ago, XPS Gen 4, cost me 3 grand. 3.6 ghz with 2 gb ram (upgraded to 4 gb), and nvidia gforce 6800 (upgraded to nvidia gforce 7900 gt). I have not had any problems with it at all, and it has been faithful to me for 2 years now. I think I extended the warrenty for another year, but hey, Im loving it, 2 years old, and better than some systems. Here is what gets me though, I still lag on nwn 2, I think the Devs said there was a memory leak somewhere, hope they get that fixed.

why are you buying a Gateway, james? if it's for the warranty, you void that when you open the box and make changes

AMD 64x2 5000+
Evga Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX x 2 SLI
4GB Patriot Ram
GigaByte iRAM 4GB RamDrive
75GB Raptor x2 Raid-0
Evga 131-K8-NF44-AX nForce 4 SLI Mainboard uATX Micro

The 2nd 8800GTX made absolutely no difference in the framerate on NWN2, and I found out that my system is seriously CPU bottlenecked.. blah..

It seems that any rig less than a supercomputer is going have issues running NWN2. I too have one of those dual core, huge RAM beasts (which I built myself, so no bottlenecks), and even though I can burn a DVD, encode a video, do some photoshopping and run Brothers in Arms at the same time... NWN 2 plays like crap and takes forever to load new areas. Horribly sloppy code. :(

Okay... that's one hell of a rig. What the hell, are you Bill Gates' son or something?

Anywa-hay, NwN2 doesn't use both cores, just one. And rumour has it that SLI isn't being utilised by the game.

You should have no crashes with that amount of RAM though. Jeez.
