Well, the main argument against applications... who's gonna sort through them all? There's currently 325 accounts created on Dasaria, that's one heap of Dev distraction!
There's a reason Dasaria's posted under PW Story and not Roleplay, it's roleplay encouraged, not enforced. Aslong as Jeh and the DM Team don't say otherwise, "Silent Runners" have just as much of a right to play and have fun in the world of Dasaria as you guys do, aslong as they respect the server rules.

I'm a WOW player myself, however I have been involved in Rolemaster campaigns since the age of 12, sure roleplaying correctly at the age of 12 is quite difficult to understand but it's something that has been picked up over the years.
Reading through this discussion however I can see why the said "WOW Style players" could be frustrating for the roleplaying Dasarian community.
I would like to think that not all migrations from other RPG's to Dasaria bring with them the tank and spank, farm and loot, troll and flame mentality that is so obviously demonstrated in some other gaming communities.
However, the remedy for the problem would require some major changes in the way that the server is run imho, as mentioned previously, the server would have to be declared "roleplaying" and not reside in the "action" server list, and an application based character creation system.
Main point of this post was, just to ask for the core community not to stereotype me as a wow player because I mentioned that I was here
I'll try my best to stay as in character as possible.
I joined this community for a different style of gaming and look forward to getting to know some of you all in character. Say hello when you see me in game :p

See, I agree with this sentiment. I wouldn't really care for applications, because I prefer my DM staff in-game, not approving/disapproving potentials. My 'Silent Runners' phrase wasn't really meant to belittle, just classify. I think that if a player just wants to log in and kill stuff, that's fine. I just prefer to not be subject to OOC chatroom behavior when I'm playing here. I'd still be playing WoW if that were my desire, and I played the hell out of WoW. I want the illusion that role-playing reinforces.IronWaffle wrote:Well, the main argument against applications... who's gonna sort through them all? People play the way they want, and gravitate (eventually) towards players with similar styles. I know I'll constantly be surrounded by amazing, creative, evocative players.
I was tonight.

Just a thought.. I have been on a server before where they created Citizen tokens. Without one players could not get combat xp beyond 6th lvl. The process for getting on was to be nominated by one of the player base and then others would comment on this. Finally, the DM team would decide to give one or not. Now this is only for a server that wants to enforce roleplaying. It does create a few effects though, creating a wall for those just wanting to grind. This can be a great way to encourage roleplay and stop anyone from gaining enough power to become a serious problem to the server.
I can understand the origin of this thread though, it can be hard to break into the group of roleplayers. I know today was the first day I was able to play with some of them and I hope it will continue.
As for what to do about those that don't well try is all we can do. It can get fustrating at times when it seems everyone around you is not or in their little groups already, and I have found myself going to do little solo errands because of that, but the key I think is to just keep trying and eventually the good roleplay that is on this server will come more and more.
With all that said, please feel free to grab me on the server all the time. My character is a bit of an introvert, but will reply and I want to roleplay. At least as long as I notice the text.

In my opinion anything that takes DM away from game to deal with "Paperwork" isn’t a good idea and wont benfit the community in the long run. Even when DAS1 was about we had out fair share of Power gamers and farmers. But as Grayle said these people are about destination once they get to 20, there’s not much for them.
I believe when there more PW Action servers out there we will lose most of these types, Dasaria has always been a Low magic server and these players will tail off to other servers looking for better equipment.
Meet you last night Ludovic, so ever you need a Crazy mage or a Drunken Sailor as a companion let me know.

Well I just wanted to put my say as a player new to dasaria. I've been rping for years now and was quite excited finding this place of good rping so early in nwn2's life. I haven't been able to stop playing really. Now in the past, I've always taken the side of the rp enforcing crowd, but I personally had a very bad experience on Dasaria.
My character always stays IC but also is more reclusive. I'm usually solo, rping with people as I go, even talking to myself at times. But do to attitudes like the OP, I was actually falsely accused as a powergamer and treated very poorly by that player ooc. This is largely do to my lvl being high I think. Anyway, the question is, have you even tried talking to some of these "silent runners" or are you just judging them because they haven't made many friends yet, or don't tend to party alot. To think rp only happens in parties is a mistake I think.
So maybe some of these players are not the horrible players you think them to be, give them a chance before you judge them.

I feel an apology is in order. I do not know if you meant me with that comment, but nevertheless I did (partially) accuse you as well. Reading this message leads me to think my reasons were unfounded of.Shaolin22 wrote:Well I just wanted to put my say as a player new to dasaria. The reason leading me to think like this was the fact that I had always seen your character ran by, never talking with anyone and having outstanding level. I also asked a few people around if they had seen any talk, the answer was the same what I came up with myself.
So, to cut short story even shorter: I am sorry for my words. Hopefully you'll accept this as an apology and you don't hate me OOC now. Feel free to chat around IC as well

As far as I'm concerned, RP Nazis like the boob you encountered are as bad as the griefers. Some people have a fixed idea on what RPing is, and anyone not adhering to their ideals gets scorned. Just ignore people like that. While RP is encouraged on this server, it is not mandatory, and if you are not actively RPing the entire time you're on the server, that's fine. Just enjoy yourself, obey server rules, be considerate to others, and RP when you're in the mood. Don't let people like that guy interfere with your fun.

Apology accepted. No hard feelings anymore here.
As for the people who really are not so good at roleplaying, I've always thought it best to try and couch them alittle on rping instead of just giving up on them. Some really don't want to rp and can get on my nerves as well, but others just haven't been exposed to it yet or don't feel like they know how.

Redboot: Sheath that weapon citizen!
Newb: ...
Redboot: This is your last warning!

Redboot: Okay, thats it. *knockdown* *Moved to jail cell.*
Newb: d00d WTF?
Redboot: Apparently ye've been frequenting the tavern a wee bit too much. Because I don't understand anything you're saying.
Redboot: I'll give you a while to sober up before I let you out.
==== 10 minutes later ====
player Newb has left the server.
OR
Newb: I guess I have been over indulging a bit recently. If you let me out I promise to stay dry.
Redboot: Okay, but I'll be watching you!
Newb: Thanks sir, sorry for the trouble.
==== Mean while ====
Female newb: Hey Eisenfaust, do you want to group? I'm having trouble grinding these quests alone.
Eisenfaust: Witch!!!!!!! How do you know my name? Get away from me!
Eisenfaust: Help! This mind scrying beast has come to slay us all!
Female newb: ... Oh... I'm sorry. Umm... didn't mean to frighten you. I heard from a nice fellow in the tavern that ye be keen on joining up for a bit of adventuring.
Eisenfaust: Feeeeeeewwww... Blasted witches these days. You have to watch your back ya know.
I played on Dasaria a lot during the early days. At first I wasn't too into RP, but I played with several players (I'll credit Butch more than anyone) that would never let RP die. It was so entertaining listening and watching them. You almost had no choice but to play along. After a while it became something hard to live without.
Once development levels out a bit I would expect the best roleplaying experiences here that online gaming has to offer.

After reading Jasmina's comments above I have to totally agree, and I'd like to add to it lol. I have to say, I dont mind the stereotyping people do in character about Drow - I expect that as that's how it should be. What I dont like is the attitude ive seen in game and especially on these boards when it comes to drow players. I think there are a few people who need to get off their high horses. Not everyone who plays race X is in it for reason Y or Z.
