To Disable Buff Effects or Not To Disable Buff Effects
Re: To Disable Buff Effects or Not To Disable Buff Effects
I've audited these results and they're legit. But February 5th? That's a long polling period!

I would like the buff effects to be subdued, but not completely gone.

I think it is binary. On/Off...if I am not mistaken.

They wouldn't be turned off. The only thing that would change are the actual visual effects of a limited number of obtrusively bright or globular spells. They would still have VFX.

Re: To Disable Buff Effects or Not To Disable Buff Effects
Well, in all likelihood, what Dasaria will end up using is the Less Obtrusive Spell Buffs mod. It doesn't remove the effects, it changes them to less obtrusive and ridiculously over the top spell effects. So the spell effects won't be gone, they'll be less obtrusive.
What's really ironic is that most of the worst offenders for these effects are also low level. The really powerful and dangerous buffs rarely are as visual. For instance, Premonition, the most powerful DR spell in the game, has no spell effect at all when it's running. Another good example to Shadow Shield, which grants excellent DR (that has no total absorbed amount), +5 to Natural Armor and outright Immunity to ALL negative energy effects and death effects, all with a rather subdued black aura about the caster. Heck the gaudier the spell effect generally means lower level and less powerful spell for buffs across the board. Which is probably one reason these spells bother us mages so much. We like our shiney effects, but we want the effects to match the power of the spell we cast (which is one reason IGMS is popular (beyond being one of the best offensive spells), I mean, it just looks EPIC and AWESOME when you cast it, much moreso than Disintegrate, which is it's equal).

Re: To Disable Buff Effects or Not To Disable Buff Effects
i like to see the effect of what the character have in them...its to predict the outcomes..if the effect is brought down, we wont see what is in their buff and what spell they are using
pro's of disabling effects
-lessen lagg
-not messy
-can see our character clearly
-smoother program graphic rendering
contra's
-cannot be sure of the precise spell character are using
-for a buffer,we must see clearly when our timing ends and sometimes effects help
-very helpful in helping party members..for an example when party member is dispelled,we can act and organize and think very fast on how to save them and buff them on what spell they need. this works in two ways where we can help them and they can also help us to save either one from dying. then we can coordinate on how to do battle with each others buff left and timing for the next battle and rest. In this matter,it shows some big significant importance of the effects.
-without effects, more typing is needed..example: "man, please buff me this and that..i was dispelled by the enemy this and this which will take some time.." to enhance the speed and teamwork without much interaction and to make it haste, sometimes effect will take their importance...
with both pro's and contra's..i can see that i choose to lessen the effect but still make it visible for others to see for better helping and faster interactions..thank you.. just a mere opinion from a newbie..hope at least it helps..

Re: To Disable Buff Effects or Not To Disable Buff Effects
Izzul, as a mage who got to level 20 using the lessened spell buffs (before they were "outlawed" so to speak) the reduced spell effects are more than noticeable enough and easy to keep track of visually. Further, once you get used to the new spell effects you'll still be able to identify what's on enemy mages, at least via visual effects (spells with no visual effects to begin with, like all the Stat buff spells, premonition and heroism, well, good luck).
So in short, your list of "cons" don't really exist. The only reason to vote no on this poll is if you like the buffball look.

I set it for a two week period, I suppose it could be adjusted or ended early if needed though.DM Wired wrote:I've audited these results and they're legit. But February 5th? That's a long polling period!

Bah, let is breath, people are wishy washy and we'll see if the No's can catch up.
Re: To Disable Buff Effects or Not To Disable Buff Effects
Those who are not sure what it is about:
Atm Buffball shows low-tier spells and make character look unimportant.
This poll is about hampering abit some too visible effects, but they will be visible, still...
Effects like Stone Skin And Bark Skin will be visible..
So No is leave Protection from Evil, and some other low tier spell effects as they are (rediculous hamster balls), or just lessen their brightness... which is Yes. Noone want to remove effects, that will be just graphics-card, connection friendly improvement, which also will improve distinctivness and RP feel between characters... But effects will be nice, shiney and visible... just bit more balanced...

I don't think the spell effects really have much of an effect on your connection to the server (if at all), just your own graphical framerate, and opinion on the aesthetics.

Re: To Disable Buff Effects or Not To Disable Buff Effects
And short version about those spell effects (visual ) them all are ghastly unnatural rediculous funny looking nuisance!
Heh yesterday our little party of Strombeards was in warehouse doing immortals and off couse buffed up. When we fight there somebody say "damn i dont even see the enemy.." and others join same observation that now one see them behind that glowing lightshow. So we all was banging something and when all finaly stop so we estimate that enemy was died?

They are hard enough to see even without all the glowing clutter.
