Hello everyone.
I'm not around long yet, as you can easily recognize. I registered my character on the Das2 Server only a couple of days ago.
I wondered what the stance on small user created zones is that could be embeded in the Das2 world. They could be mostly for flavor, i.e. a character's house, a small patch of forrest where a druid character lives - such things.
No loot, no containers, no attackable creatures and no quests.
If any of the above seems worth adding, it would be the choice of the Das2 team.
Terrain, objects, etc would be in the user's hands. If he wants to do some changes he'd send in the changed area to distribute it again with the next .pwc. That of course would be limited once content was added by the staff.
I am not sure how much of an increase of the .pwc file such content would cause any term, or if the stress on the server would increase (I am just doing basic areas to entertain myself right now).
Curious (:
Small User Maintained areas
I'd assume they'd need to add something to the server other than just being "themed" for a character. By that I'd guess content to further the server such as quests and areas that would have significance in relation to the central story.
I don't know though, I'm merely guessing. I'm not part of the development team but the module size does dictate what you can and cannot add.
If I recall, a medium empty outdoor area adds about 42 MB to server size, while an empty medium indoor area adds about 2.4MB. I can't recall exactly, I'd have to check, to be honest.
Regardless, it's still quite a price to pay especially if the area is outdoors.

I'm relatively new here too - the impression I have (i'm sure its quite accurate) is that ANY custom created content is welcome - whether it is added or not is up to das2 team.
The best way to put it is : If it "enhances the server" - as far as I see, there wouldn't be a reason for it not to be welcomed.
So in saying that, an area you want to play around in, such as your own house, doesn't really enhance the server (merely an example), as opposed to an RP quest area, with creatively scripted quests that revolve around the sole aspect of roleplaying.
