So, three guys were underground and came round a corner and saw a Drow and attacked without entering into any negociation.

Obviously I wasn't there so I don't have all the facts, but according to my copy of "Dungeon Delving for Dumbies" if you come across a Drow underground you don't pull out a picnic mat and invite it over for tea and scones...

Now that is tricky - I've heard that some Drow have taken to wearing facepaint to try and pass for Moon elves, sneaky buggers, probably safer to knife anything elf shaped you come across underground - you were elf shaped?

Maybe you could ge a special shirt with the words "I'm not a Drow" embroided on the back.

The thing is, Drow don't generally come with horns...

A valid point - perhaps the shirt could read

"I'm not a drow, I'm demonic" ?

We know they dont, thats' already been addressed. Since there is no official "support" for Drow, however, that's all that people have had to talk about.

Zephis wrote:well yes, I understand your not a Griefer Hugh.. but even in DND you wouldn't handle drow that way.
Theirs a good post on the wizards forums somewhere by someone that pointed out that most "feared" races would generally be left alone with most people just wanting them to get away as swiftly as possible, and only coming out with pitchforks and torches when theirs actual provocation.

In addition this isnt FR.. so how some things work here might be different.. I understand that the drow were allies with one side at somepoint.. and that the Varanites employed demons at another.. which might explain the large Tiefling population (A sad result of the nessecity of summoning demons)

Some families might even have gotten compensation or their be a government branch setup to keep such families quiet or not to expose the Varanites involvement with the summoning of demons..

Quoted for truth =P

As a general rule, I'd call the automatic unroleplayed and continued killing anyone who hasn't officially been declared and Enemy of the State griefing. Roleplayed does not, in this context, mean you're walking through town, see a <insert race here>, yell DIE SCUM, and kill them. Exceptions will, of course, exist.

A warning to stay away from you if they are of a race that you despise should suffice. If they choose to come closer any way, they've asked for whatever they get. If they stay clear of you, then you should have no grounds for killing them.

You're still allowed to RP that you hate drow and you mistrust every word they say though, which is what I do with all my characters and have always done. Even the ones granted asylum my characters hardly associated friendly with them. Our characters live in a racist war torn world where ignorance is more rampant then on this forum! Griefing them constantly is lame yes, but if they do it within the PvP rules and with a bit of RP spark and it fits for the character, then that's fine, in fact it's awesome and I encourage it.

Utter truth.

I see many characters who want to be 'The Foreigner', but also want instant acceptance.

It's just so strange.

Exactly. In character racism is alive and well. It should be. It just isn't grounds for the automatic killing of characters. Find good roleplayed ways to make the character aware that they are always on trial. No race (at least currently) is KOS. That doesn't mean that they are accepted as citizens in good standing.

My main (should I ever get to play again... Stupid game client) is a Tiefling. I made this choice knowing that my life is not going to be easy. I also made this character a class that is non-standard for Tieflings. I did this entirely for roleplay reasons. I wanted something interesting and that would be a challenge. The backstory for the character started forming in my head almost as soon as the idea for rolling up such a character.

Agree with the point about automatic killing, to a point. Getting killed by another player is not fun, whether you're evil or not.
But part of the challenge of the race you've chosen to play will be learning to identify the characters (*note characters, not players) for whom it is completely in character to cut you down without any witty pre-stabby banter, because they will be out there.

That, I would think, is a function of EOS status. Unless a character has been given that status or publicly states that he expects his character to be KOS, killing him/her without provocation is a rules violation.

I dont think so, If i want to go around murdering drow in the middle of the hill country or something i dont see it as a violation of the rules.

May there be some in character repercussions for that? probably, but the pvp rule set is fairly flexible in that it is non-consensual based and even if you instigate there is the possibility you will lose as well.

Of course it should be within reason not cutting down all the level 1 drow running from teh town gate.
I'm always right. I'm also a jerk. It's not my fault you can't get over the latter to see the former.

Hurray for Me!

Not all RP reasons for pvp require communication. What it requires is maturity, common sense, and respect for your fellow player.

on a related note:

The EOS status of drow is still in question, and is in discussion by the staff. The decision will come in large part from how the players handle situations.
