Then the mage shouldn't have 10 pounds of clothing. :)

Just my personal opinion - and this used to bother me as well - but, back in the middle ages, people wore more clothing than they do today. We can't judge by today's standards - because clothes back then were a LOT heavier.

Ten pounds really isn't that much, if you think about it that way.

Well, give the mage some place to store his clothing, like a wardrobe, and he wouldn't have to carry around 10lbs of clothing.

Retort: They can use the bank.

Oh? So going to the bank to get dressed... makes sense now?

I'm sorry. There are a lot of places realism can be incorporated. Clothing isn't one of them. I personally am not impressed when I see everybody running around in armor.

It should also be noted that Dasaria is by no means a parallel to Medieval Europe. It would probably be more accurately viewed through the historical light of ancient Babylonia, and of the Byzantine Empire (forgetting the monotheism aspect of the latter). Lighter fabrics, like silk, were certainly available, even if expensive--and they became available early on.

Now, a very valid argument there would be that none of the Seamstress' outfits LOOK to be made of silk. Well, that's true... But Dasaria is by no means a parallel of RL, either. The materials in Dasaria, while perhaps borrowing from what WE know of, are very likely unique.

Finally, there's the fun factor that always comes into things like this. Clothing without bonuses is, by all means, purely an RP tool. If you get penalized for carrying it around, it becomes unfun to carry it around. So yeah, how about we all just keep running around in fullplate. Maybe someone wants to do the Defile quest with me, while we're at it.

The clothing and armour choices are more parallel to medival times, as compared to earlier time periods, simply because most suits beyond the more simple armours weren't invented yet. Mail of any kind was thought to be invented about 500 BCE (By the Celts, and used often by Romans), while mostly plated armours weren't invented until 13th- 15th century CE, although many vulnerable body areas were plated earlier on. The romans for example were most famous for using the Lorica Hamata. In short, since we have things better then mail armour, it would make sense that we are closer to medival times.

Pre-Medival times clothing varied alot, from the robes and togas of rome, to skins of Germania, very light clothing in Mesopotamia, and in Egypt alot of the people didn't wear clothes at all. But in Medieval periods, most of the clothing was made from wool, and later linen and hemp. Linen is quite lightweight, and is often used in undergarments and shirts because it is lightweight. Although, likely pants would be made of wool or leather as they are tougher. Still for city clothing, likely they would be made from linen or hemp, as few people wanted their nice clothing to be heavy and hot, but their work clothing would be thicker.

So in short, likely the clothing we have would be made from linen, lightweight, so 10 pounds of linen would be the equivalent of probably somewhere between 5-10 shirts. Thus thats half your warddrobe, not just one shirt and pants. Besides, for weaker folk this hurts alot if they want to roleplay with cloth, as cloth serves virtually no other purpose. The only two classes restricted to cloth for the most part are Sorcerers and Wizards, and they have much better robes to be wearing. If you have a weak class such as a warlock, bard, rogue, ranger, or divine caster, they'll likely have mediocre strength, and 10 pounds can be alot. I know from playing Hyel that having an extra cloth on hand would be a tenth of his carry weight before first encumberance, which defeats the purpose of him carrying it, since that cuts heavily into what he can pick up without a buff to strength.

I didn't say 10 pounds of clothing, I meant 10 pounds per outfit. :P Which can add up to ridiculous amounts even with just a few outfits. Now, for someone who doesn't care as much about RP to want to carry a variety of outfits, it probably doesn't matter as much. As long as you're wearing the armor you need for PvE, you're good to go, right? But for the rest of us who want to add a unique flair to our characters... carrying 50 pounds for clothing alone is blah.

Yeah, you can change it, quite easily too. It's a fun little item property called Weight Reduction: 80%. Apply it to the clothing the seamstress offers, problem solved.

But of course, the 'not going to' settles it, I guess. It's always nice to see such shining examples of keeping an open mind.

Thanks!
Please limit this thread to bugs about Dasaria. If you want to debate how much medieval clothes ought to weigh, take it to the OOC Forum, or complain on the bioware boards about the default weight of clothing.

Adding item properties to clothing is not a sound approach and there would be unintended consequences, such as increasing the cost of items and breaking the item appearance changer.

Changing the subject... back to the subject at hand..

When Ealden introduces himself, he says he's "the smith" here in Cear .. shouldn't it be "the Smith" with the S capitalized, since it's technically not only what he does, but a title as well?

This might just be my personal preference, but I thought I'd throw it out.

On the subject of clothing weight, why not just edit the armorrulestats.2da server-side to change it from 10lbs to, say.. 1-3?

Falier Home: journal updates for picking up quest items.

Cear Sewers: having to pick up the lost worker's report for journal update instead of just walking near him. making the report a quest item so you know if you met the requirements or not. same for the "boss fight" - nice if he dropped something as proof and this item is quest item which updates journal when you grab it.

All Quests: opening chests, barrels, weapon racks, apparatus, etc. causes them to disappear - please change this it looks stupid and also would be nice to be able to leave things in them if you find something you don't want. they should still be able to reload their inventory - it worked in nwn, should work with nwn2.

All Caves: when clicking on a cave entrance an invisible door opens before you can enter. can't this be changed to a "normal" transition (both inside and out - since leaving you have to open a door.) The OC didn't have invisible doors when entering caves, why does dasaria?

WORKING AS INTENDED.
