Turns out there's some truth to the Old Dakhen Relic myth too. They broke the Vaults somehow, and made off with the thing, right out of the Dakhen Family's personal vault!
And Luis Dakhen and most of his guards have been found murdered in their Manse in Empress Court!
The precise origins of the Dakhen Relic are lost to ancient history.
What is known about the relic is that it has been in the possession of the Dakhens, a noble family famous for begetting many notable arcanists, for just about as long as anyone can remember. It is unquestionably very ancient, thought to be a relic of the antelapsarian world, and for that reason unimaginably valuable. Although it properly belongs in a museum, or at least in the care of one of the Imperial Academies, for the past fifty years it has rested in the Dakhen's ultra-secure private vault beneath the Imperial Bank of Varana in Cear.
What is rumored about the blade, at least according to one apocryphal tale sometimes spun by drunken thieves at the Buck Inn, is that it is crafted of Red Unobtainium, a massless, frictionless, indestructible, and impossibly rare element which can be honed to an edge a single atom thick. The single source of this element, a deposit no bigger than a bread box, is said to have fallen to Earth when the last servants of Ch’taia were expelled from the heavens.
However, the thieves' tale of the Dakhen Relic is more notable in those circles for their vocational interest in its resting place. The same dubious tale says that the vault in which the blade resides is unassailable, even by a Master Thief. The vault and its locking mechanism were designed of hardest adamantine by the Fizzlewinks, a legendary family of gnomish engineers who labored for three years on their masterwork and were immediately assassinated following its completion such that the mystery of its workings should never come to light.
As the story goes, there is but one key, which is constantly worn around the neck of Luis Dakhen, the family Patriarch. But even if one were to obtain that key, it would not be sufficient to gain entrance to the vault, as in those final days before their execution, the Fizzlewinks secured their vault with some diabolically complex mechanism, the secret of which they took to their grave, which can still be found in the Old Cemetery in North Cear.
