metal and it's uses
Is it me, or do certain types of metal tend to lean towards being used in just weapons or just armor vs both. For example, would there be any reason to make plate mail with cold iron? Just wondering what to do with those ingots...
I'm no metallurgist, but I have been learning some of the smiths' fundamental skills of late.
Some metals are softer for others, allowing them to be cast as weapons which must retain some flexability in addition to keeping an edge.
Some metals are able to be tempered with hammer and muscle, making them stiffer and more suitable as armor.
For example, Iron is very useful as a metal, as it can easily be shaped or tempered for both weapons and armor. Cold iron, however, would make a much less suitable choice for a breastplate, but you could certainly fashion a blade from such a substance and technique.
There is so much to learn. Luck be yours.
