The Past of Elysa Frost

Post by Elysa Frost »

Part One

Things had not gone right. This was anticipated. No, anticipated was not the most accurate word choice. She had feared this. While she had indeed took any precautions and safety measures she could think of, she did not feel the calm someone might feel who had adequately anticipated a problem, and was ready to deal with it. No, what she felt was a great fear swelling up inside of her, fear of what she knew could happen to her, but an even greater fear for what she may be unaware of could happen to her.

These are the thoughts that flashed through Elysa Frost's mind in less than a second as she realized her spell had backfired upon her.

It was not the first time that this had happened. She had spells backfire on her before as she was learning to master the arcane. She had at times singed the hem of her robe sleeves when attempting a fire incantation. Another time, when she first began her studies, a mistake with an invisibility spell had rendered only her robes transparent, and she was quite thankful no one else had been around at the time. And while that was quite embarrassing, she could not help but wonder what someone might have thought had they been watching her when she first began to privately study the area of Enchantment, and had put a Tasha's Hideous Laughter charm upon herself. Elysa recalled rolling about in her Inn room floor overwhelmed with an unresistable urge to giggle.

But now that she had been practicing and researching spells dealing with memories, Elysa knew she had to be much more careful. Now, it was not her physical comfort, her privacy, or her dignity she was risking, it were her own memories.

Time seemed to speed up. Her vision began to blur, and Elysa let out a frightened gasp. Her sight darkened, and Elysa felt her body begin to numb...

Part Two

Elysa's thoughts seem to come slower and slower. Feeling continued to leave her body, and she began to think she was hallucination. She saw herself as a little girl, an unsettling distraught little girl.

A much shorter and younger Elysa was lying down on a fancy, carefully made bed. Her head rested gently on her interlinked hands behind her, in turn resting softly upon her tear stained pillow. Her eyes, pink and swollen, continued to produce more tears that cascaded down her scarlet tinted cheeks. There were times, occasionally, when the crying would come to a stop, as Elysa stared down at the toes on her bare feet, and would be still. But after a few moments, while her head was clearing, she would catch a glimpse of the bracelet around her arm, or become aware of the book on her shelf in her line of sight, or something else. Something that had been given to her by her sister, or reminded her of her sister in some way. And the tears would return.

Somewhat awkwardly, a young boy of about twelve and near Elysa's age, tilted back in his chair in the corner of the room. He seemed troubled, and a great deal of sadness, too, could be gleamed from his face. But not nearly the same level of grief that had overtaken his friend. And for as sad as he appeared to be, the boy appeared equally as much uncomfortable, and uncertain of what to say or do.

He tried to break the silence. "It'll be okay, El," he managed.

Elysa looked at him through teary eyes, with a doleful expression. She attempted to respond, managed the word "Christopher..." but was unable to utter anything more.

Things had began to shift again, and things became blurry. Uncertain if her eyes were open or closed, she tried to open them, and then close them, to no avail. She could not move or feel anything at all, as her vision once again began to fade to darkness. She saw several flashes of light, and watched closely as another one of her memories began t assemble and unfold itself in her mind...
