Well, I have played on the server twice this week, two different characters, two different times of day.
1. I like the areas so far, what I have seen. They look good, well planned. Some are a little laggy, probably due to some clutter of the placeable kind, and lots of placed grass. Not too terrible though, and I am running on a less than stellar system.
2. Quests are fun, lots to do for new characters. I have browsed a lot of servers and I can tell you there is nothing more frustrating than to join with a new character and have nothing to do because everything is geared toward established players.
3. RP, here I had some issues. Granted there were very few people on both times I played, and I had two glaringly different experiences in this department. First time was good, interacted with two other players, everyone stayed IC and everything was interesting. Second time (tonight) was a totally different matter. First group I encountered were killing wolves, I was playing a druid, and I asked them what they were doing and why. There was an attempt made at RP but ultimately it boiled down to and OOC discussion about why the server was empty. Second encounter tonight, I spied a drow killing wolves (did I mention I was an elven druid) anyway I reacted like any other green-blooded elf and I attacked the drow, after telling her I was going to make her pay for the gray ones suffering. She ran into the city, humans all around, drow hiding behind the guards. This may be server lore, but everywhere I come from drow are hated by all. So, after several attempts to stop her, I got my companion on the scent, but just as my bear was about to have her for lunch, the player dropped from the server and came back as another character. Later the player came back in as the drow and I finished the job. But, initially this whole deal was a little distracting to engrossing RP.
I may be wrong in my assumption of how drow are viewed in this world, if I am correct me and I will apologize to the one I killed.
If drow are hated here too, then players need to RP their drow better. Walking openly in town with no retaliation from the city's inhabitants is just not good RP. Every other server I have played at will not allow people to just play drow, you have to prove you are a good roleplayer and get permission from DM's, this may be the way to go.
Well, anyway, I am long winded, thats just my thoughts so far. I like the world, and will stay in hopes that it will get more interesting with the population higher.

Well there are people here who don't RP very much, for various reasons. Some have problems with their english, and some just feel a general discomfort with RPing. If you wish to approach another player with IC intentions but you find that the other player doesn't RP I say just forget the whole thing. You could also discuss the possible encounter in advnce with the player in advance via IG tells to verify whether he is a roleplayer or not. Most players seem to RP here so you shouldn't have much problems finding a good IC action. Granted that the server isn't almost empty.
Insanity has been kind to me, but no longer.

The druid-hostile animals outside the gate thing has a different take by different druids.magus_taliesin wrote: First group I encountered were killing wolves, I was playing a druid, and I asked them what they were doing and why.
Due to faction settings these animals (wolves-boars-bears) are always hostile. They attack everyone on sight, so there is no choice but to fight them. For this reason, as my druid, I do not try to RP the defense of these animals, but consider them as "out of Balance" or "diseased" or something along these lines.
I can only speak for my druid, who to this point, has been mostly solitary in his wanderings. There is a druid player group on the server, but I do not know their take on these hostile animals outside the front gate.

There is also a quest that you may complete in a few levels that may explain in part why the wolves are hostile *wink*
Drow...drow are barely tolerated but still protected under law. Feel free to be as insulting toward them ( ICly) as you wish. But be warned if you strike the first blow within the gates, you will then be breaking the law.
RP- We have a group of very talented RPers that I am sure you will meet the longer you play. We also have some new to RP but who try hard. Then we also have those who do not RP due to language barriers or simply because they just don't wish to. RP is not enforced though it is highly encouraged. Be patient and I am sure you will find RP enough to satisfy you.

The drow situation is one that is very frustrating for many characters (IC) so I am sure your elf will find many sympathizers around Cear, particularly people hanging around Thrall's Gate *wink wink*. Roleplay can have it's ups and downs around here, but let me tell you, when it's up, its up. Stick around, this place has lore and setting like you'll never be able to imagine anywhere else.
