Factions

Post by DM Odin »

Have you been wondering about how to get more involved in Dasarian goings-on? Are you interested in meeting and playing with other players in game? Are you curious or eager to test just how much you can influence the world of Dasaria? If so, you may want to look into joining an existing faction, or starting a new one.

A faction is a group of players with an idea. The roles of factions differ greatly, depending on what its members want. A faction can be an organization, such as a church of a special deity or a knightly order. Some other factions are secret, and work hard to stay out of the public eye. Many factions are official and easy to find both in the forum and in game. Examples of well-known official factions are The Church of Lochwar, The Cerulean Fleet, and the Order of the Diamond. Anything that gives a group of players a common goal could serve as a faction. They provide a great means of getting to know others, and provide their members with in-depth information about the land of Dasaria.

In Dasaria, there are several factions that already exist. Some are active, but some are inactive, waiting for new players to join their ranks. If you are interested in joining an already existing faction, you should send a private message to a DM, including information detailing what kind of character you want to play, and a rough outline of what kind of faction you would be interested in joining. Let us also know your class, race and alignment. You can also check what factions are open for applications in the User Control Panel - Usergroups..

It's also possible that you may have your own idea for a faction. Indeed, nearly every faction on Dasaria has been dreamed up by players. Should you develop an idea, we encourage you to post it publicly in the forum, to gather input from the community. Additionally, if you think your faction idea may be stepping over the line a little bit, you can check in with any DM by sending them a private message detailing your plans for the faction. For example, the staff would prefer it if you asked us before starting a band of conspirators whose prime goal is to assassinate the Emperor. As always, common sense comes into play here.

And above all, remember that you have the power here--the DMs live to serve by helping you, as players, run the show. If you need help with anything faction-related, don't hesitate to ask us--we love to help players get things going.

Enjoy the Ride!

Factions can be a boon to roleplaying

Although going through the forum i am finding it hard to find information on factions - the idea someone suggested of a sticky might help

And on a personal bent - I am attracted to Nuarai - Misstress of deams
As a rather anarchic bard, i am proposing - i will NOT organise a formal faction, I will NOT be its head, I will NOT lay down a set of rules or guidelines, I would expect that - the Misstress would expect - Personalities to come and go as they chose, that members, promote the ideals of Nuarai; bring peace, be cryptic, allow the possiblity of some anarchy (rather than the strict regime favoured by some), oppose Coloth.

OOC: although the idea of a loose factions is "fine", i would expect that someone - namely me do the actual administration for it. Of course there may already be a similar organisation - i was unable to find it - and I have no idea waht it takes to make or administer a faction and would like to learn more.

Open up the User Control Panel and choose Usergroups. It will allow you to browse all open factions.

There are already a few good threads relating to factions in the General section.

I am proud to be a member of a few factions and thoroughly enjoy them as there all very different (I wouldn't recommend joining two or more factions which have the same ethos/goals though):

1; Rping with your Faction/s apart from being fun really lets you find out about who those characters you travel/talk with on a regular basis and if you get immersed in the faction experience/plans you can gain a real grasp the faction members personalities - also in some cases see how it changes your char.

2; Have interesting conflicts with opposing factions or chars in Rp which can lead to a bit of PvP or an necessary colaboration between them to acheive something greater.

3; DM's storylines/adventures/random messing around with your faction is my favourite aspect of Das 2 - expect the unexpected and enjoy it. (It's also a fun way for you to put the Das 2 DM's to the test Rpwize just be prepared for your char to die lots and do not respawn straight away as you may have a Cleric in the party or if a Religous faction your faction can RP praying to their Diety and the DM will normal revive your char)

4; Opportunities - being in a faction you can try things you would do otherwize e.g. try out a week Rp char build that you might actually get somewhere with because your working with a group.

5; Big factions - the largest faction I was/am in (currently inactive) Started with 8 members then at one point had 17 - 22 members, it required oganisation from the leaders but I could login almost anytime and a member or two would already be ingame. There are some screenshots in the screenie thread of party's I was in with 14 - 16 players doing the mage tower and the Orc's great times and confusing because it was pre no bufffballs overide so we looked like a mass Xmas tree running round no one knew who was who. Lots of amusing mistakes and misplaced fireballs from myself lead to amusing RP and we used to PvP each other frequently either to resolve an RP argument or to test our ideas/builds.
