Recipes - Crafting Items (Magical Enhancements)
Hello fellow Dasarians,
I was directed by a DM to post my questions here....so here I am.
I'm trying to learn how to craft (Weapons/Armor with magical enhancements). I have the Feats/Skills but have learned that the recipes in this world are different than the originals. I've reached level 16 and haven't come across any clues as to how the recipes are different. I've asked other players (about 5 of you) if you could share/trade/sell any knowledge for even a simple +2 weapon enhancement to get an idea how things work here but haven't had any luck.
I'm not sure if just the gems are different or if the spells are different (Magical workbench). I'm guessing that the essences are because some of the original ones don't seem to exist here. If I have to try every wizard spell (100's), combined with every type of gem combined with every original Dasaria ingredient - well I would probably die of old age here in reality before I came across something that worked. I'm assuming that every successful crafter here was given some idea of the basics or where to begin... that's all I require. I don't mind experimenting.
Where should I start? Can someone point me in the direction? If I reach level 20 without having crafted 1 item.... it would be a shame because I believe the road traveled is more important than the ultimate destination. I'm already halfway to 20.... halfway down my road....
After searching in this Forum for related posts - the last I could find were in June 2008 where players were requested to be patient and wait. Does anyone here know if the changes have been implemented yet? Am I wasting my time with dreams of crafting here? Thanks for your feedback!

Re: Recipes - Crafting Items (Magical Enhancements)
Hello! There is a list of every item craftable in the game and the required feats/etc here. All of these items/enhancements are available right now, though we only allow items up to +3 for balance/medium-magic-maintenance reasons.
Our recipes are unique to Dasaria and they are not found printed straight out in books as they are in the Original Campaign. There are however, in-character hint books found in game which elude to some of the mysteries around crafting and which you may find useful. The recipes themselves are based on a logical system, and once you are able to create your first CM&A items, others will likely soon follow.
Structurally, the system is similar to the OC, a magician's workbench is required to enchant items, and smithing workbench to create them. If you review the linked list above carefully, you'll note also that Dasaria allows the creation of weapons and armor with enhancement bonuses using the Craft Weapon skill.
I can understand how the "brute force method" would seem both daunting and potentially frustrating, though some have successfully gone that route in the past (I'd imagine those who guard their secrets most jealously). Nonetheless, the easiest, fastest (and sometimes most overlooked) means to learn the system is to engage another crafter and roleplay with them: be that just asking, begging, borrowing, or stealing (as long as it's an in-character action).

Re: Recipes - Crafting Items (Magical Enhancements)
It'd be unfair of course for me to publish a list of people in the know, but allow me to invite other players to interact in-character with Lapis on the subject of crafting. Also keep asking, keep telling people in game that you're looking for an apprenticeship or what have you. If five characters stonewalled you, maybe the sixth won't, or will point your character to someone else's character who might be more willing to share some information.
We definitely appreciate that this information is not passing on an out-of-character basis. But certainly there's reasons why your character, based on who they are, might be willing to share, trade, or sell bits of knowledge. Nice Guy? Indentured Servitude? Mountains of Gold? I dunno, but don't miss an opportunity for good RP.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I'm willing to work/trade/pay for any help that will lead me to a completed item however simple it may be. You know where to find me!

Re: Recipes - Crafting Items (Magical Enhancements)
Seeking clarification.
Hello again. I followed the link (listed above) about items available for crafting in Dasaria. I found the post confusing and wondered if someone could clarify a few inconsistencies for me; especially since I think it was initially created to try to make things clearer.
From the post, it's not clear to me what is true.
Concerning magical enhancements:
"..where we have drawn the line currently is +3.."
Then I see in the list of items, many +4 and +5 items such as:
Clubs, daggers, greatswords, flails, greataxes, etc.
These are shown in "..the definitive list of everything that is currently craftable in Dasaria .."
- Hence my confusion.
If the line has been drawn at +3, why are +4/+5 items listed as currently available for crafting?
Which of the above situations is the reality? Others may also be confused by this or perhaps its just me.
Thanks for clarifying,
Lapis / Cashen

Re: Recipes - Crafting Items (Magical Enhancements)
It merely means the crafting system is capable of creating those items. It does not however mean your character is going to find the +4 or +5 ingredient in order to do that, because they are not in the loot pool. Then I see in the list of items, many +4 and +5 items such as:
Clubs, daggers, greatswords, flails, greataxes, etc.
These are shown in "..the definitive list of everything that is currently craftable in Dasaria .."
But your point that that could be confusing is a fair one. I will update the list for clarity.

They're in the loot pools. I'm informed that there's a few for sale at merchant most distant from Cear right now.Randomyze wrote:Anywho Wired I have a question regarding the books. Are they drops from chests or such, static items on tables and such or both?
Save us some! Say, why can't you play NWN2 while you're at home in bed? That sounds like a perfect opportunity to me.Sorry I dont really knolw wat Im saying right now.

You know, I just happen to remember a notice that went ignored mostly around Cear about a building of a library that would also be lending out books when it was finished. You know, it could help if you donated to the cause and helped it along, every little bit, and espcially the big bits helpI have a question regarding the books. Are they drops from chests or such, static items on tables and such or both?
Congrats on getting to 16, something I've yet to achieve heh. I think if you donated to the Library, Hyel would be willing to show you some basics in crafting. He can't actually craft himself, but he knows the theory of how it is done and can walk you through the stages (Provided you have the skill and the material, I would suggest you you come to Hyel Loremaster with atleast 2-4 metal ingots of the same kind and at least 10 in either craft weapon or craft armor.) Good luck out there, crafters tend to keep their secrets hidden deep in their minds, or in some lost dungeon in a place entirely unexpected.I'm trying to learn how to craft (Weapons/Armor with magical enhancements).

Re: Recipes - Crafting Items (Magical Enhancements)
Hello Dasarians,
Five weeks have gone by since my original post and I'm sad to say that nothing has changed concerning my frustrating search for knowledge on how to craft magical enhancements here in Dasaria. There seems to be no one who will guide new players into the tightly held secrets of how crafting magical enhancements is done in this world.
I've been on every day and talked to those who I have come across. I heard about a crafter's guild but the leader has not signed on in several weeks and the two members that I found can do nothing to help me. At this point I would advise other want-to-be-crafters that, perhaps at this time, Dasaria is not the place to pursue such interests. There are no ingame mechanics to give insight into the unique crafting process which is required here and the few players who know how to do so do not wish to share the information whether it be bought, traded, or role-played with me.
After trying on my own to cast random spells on random ingredients, I have had no luck without a single success. There are millions of possible combinations with the various, gems, ingredients and spells that are available. My mistake was not listening to those who warned me that I should forget about even trying and that it would only be a waste of time. I've learned my lesson.
Should an old player or the head of the now defunct crafter's guild see this message and be willing to guide me, please contact Lapis. There really is no point in Cashen (the character I created to craft) to log on anymore.

I think that a good idea would be a scripted quest made especially for crafters, in which they get some idea of the basics, at least. Information held strictly by players can often get lost.
Someone needs to gather up all those secrets, whether by the grace of a DM or otherwise, and start a new crafting-information highway. The Order of the Diamond has been defunct for ages.

Re: Recipes - Crafting Items (Magical Enhancements)
Dasaria is a role playing server. Your character will learn all sorts of interesting lore, including crafting recipes, by interacting with others.
Two excellent role players have offered to help you: Alterity and Randomyze. Alterity plays Hyel Loremaster a character intent on rebuilding the ruined library of Cear. He has a ton of books containing lore, including crafting hints. If you interact with him, he will let you see these books. Randomyze plays Eldia an apprentice to the Order of the Diamond. If you interact with her, she will show you the basics of enchanting. Eldia and my character Darius have openly exchanged recipes in the past.
There are lots of other crafters out there. Amnon Meshullam who runs the Order of the Diamond returned a few weeks ago. I bought crafted and enchanted armor from Mel'sazzar yesterday. I spoke with Marco yesterday. Bodok is another crafter. Engage these people.
All of my characters know some aspect of crafting. Jack knows how to fletch elemental arrows. Leopold knows how to craft armor and weapons. Darius knows some enchantment. And Amir knows how to make traps. None of my characters have ever been tight lipped about crafting. Darius runs through the process with every person who orders and item from him. If you engage my characters, they will likely show you what they know. But you have to make the effort.
Do you remember the time Lapis was partied with Amir and Esmeralda back in mid-January? Esmeralda and Amir tried to get you to join us on a quest for Sister Marie, but you wanted to go solo. Three weeks after that, Lapis is level 16, and you are on this forum wondering why you can't learn crafting. The knowledge was there in your party, but you didn't engage it.
Role playing is encouraged on Dasaria and crafting is one of the incentives. It is one of the few things on Dasaria that's impossible to solo. Even the people who cracked the recipes by brute force did so as part of a team. Role play and you will be rewarded.

Re: Recipes - Crafting Items (Magical Enhancements)
Rob, perhaps it would be only fair to talk to me before you assume things about what I have or have not done or who I have or have not already spoken to.
- Alterity has information on how to make weapons. That's not what I'm looking for. Of course in the two months or more that Cashen has been searching for knowledge we have had the occasion to speak.
- Randomyze is forbidden to share his knowledge by the Guild leader who I haven't seen (or he for that matter) online.
- Ditto for Hvrankel & Eldia
- Hyel only offered to show me how to make weapons which I already know. The Post here reads "Magical enhancements". I'm also not looking to make traps (Amir) - Read the original post if you need to refresh yourself.
- Mel'sazzar and all his incarnations is not interested in any kind of recipe exchange.
I have never met a Darius, Jack, Bodok, Amnon Meshullam or Esmeralda that I can remember and if at one time I was not able to help you out, perhaps I was busy with my own agenda at the time. I form with several parties regularly and am not a player who exclusively plays solo. Perhaps the fact that you are located in America and I in Italy is the reason that you haven't seen me around. The European players certainly know of me and my pursuit of knowledge. They also know that I party with them often!
I have indeed made every effort to trade, share, roleplay, and apprentice for guidance. Several players here are aware of this if you are not. Your posted reply does me an injustice and really isn't warranted considering the lengths that I have taken in seeking information.
If you, yourself have Magical Enhancement recipes that you are willing to exchange in any way, I would be happy to try and find a time we are both on to talk to see what kind of arrangement we can come to. Regarding other players, please remember you do not know who I have spoken to or the things I have already tried.
Finally , your personal story doesn't reflect the reality that I have faced here. I'm happy for you if your experience has been different. My style is not to criticize and I have only come here for guidance.

This originally was what I posted in response. I did offer you basics in crafting, because at the time I didn't know what you needed. I did however mention that if you wanted Hyel's help you would have to donate to the Library. He has about 20 books on crafting, but because none of my characters actually craft I don't have a use for them. As such, by donating to the library Hyel would let you read them. This was meant on a more Rp level, as even if Hyel had the knowledge he wouldn't just toss it to you in a moment, as it would take him alot of hard work to get there (ICly). As someone said before, the crafting recipes are mostly self-explanetory. If you want to create fire arrows, it would make sense to have some sort of fire, as well as arrows. IE- Alchemists Fire with a group of arrows would make sense (Although I don't know if that would work, so don't blame me if it doesn't). If it works anything like in the OC, it really isn't all that complicated, and I know a bunch of recipes from the OC that I could teach you RPingly if you want to.I think if you donated to the Library, Hyel would be willing to show you some basics in crafting. He can't actually craft himself, but he knows the theory of how it is done and can walk you through the stages.
