Grotz was found by some Monks right in front of their Monastry´s Gate one morning. He was lying in a small basket, covered with ragged clothes. Seeing a new born, totally helpless, one of the monks, named Sho Tse decided to raise this baby, despite of his heritage.
The first years of his life were peaceful and calm, accepted by all members of the order, he grew up in peace, and was trained in the Martial Arts, like all inhabitants of the monastry. He also got his share of decent education, well the social kind of education, because all attempts to teach any kind of knowledge to Grotz seemed to fail. He never really learned to talk properly, never learned to read or write or any kind of academic knowledge. What he did learn though, is that it´s good to help the ones in need, and to fight the evil in this world. The definition of Good / Evil is slightly problematic though, because Grotz doesnt really understand this concept. For him, anyone who is nice to him, is good, anyone who opposes him or his friends is evil. This leads to the problem, that Grotz is very easy to manipulate. Despite his good-hearted nature, he can easily be persuaded to do extremely evil deeds, if his friends tell him to.
One day, when Grotz was training alone outside of the Monastry, an old man in rags walked up to him, and they started talking. The man told Grotz about lots of refugees on their way to the monastry, seeking for protection. They would arrive at about midnight, when the gates were closed, so Grotz offered to open the gates when all others were asleep, so the Refugees would be able to enter th monastry.
That night, Grotz woke up from the sound of battle. Goblins were invading the monastry, killing anything that moved. When the sun was rising, Grotz was the last one standing. All members of his Order were slain, the monastry burned down to the ground. His heart filled with Grief and hatred towards all Goblins. Grotz left his former home. After a year of travelling, he arrived in Cear, which he now refers to as his home.
And Grotz in action:
