Dasarian History and New Items...
On the mention of items...is it possible to make some unique items? Items like the Old Dasarian Blade except theres only one or at most a few of them. This way, these items would be not only loved, but cherished. They don't have to be of holy avenger quality, they could range from being +1 to +5. Maybe there could be a folder with these items and once in a while one of the devs could put one or two as loot in one of the boss treasures or on a boss itself. Then, the next time a player kills or loots it, he would get that item.
The problem I see with this is...how much work would it be putting in a unique item? Would scripts have to be changed, or would there need to be some major editing within the toolset in order to do this. If its not too hard to do, I vote we have a variety of unique items on this server. I'm sure the players would love this idea, and I think Dasaria would be one of the most original servers out there if the devs could implement this idea. Thoughts?

While this is the currently most popular method of distributing unique items, I tend to see some drawbacks:Grayle wrote:Unique items are part of the Dasarian campaign. They are generally asociated with DM Events, as rewards.
* Usually these items are very powerful and therefore low to mid level PCs will never be able to access them.
* Dms will give a unique item only to a player(s) he/she likes. This tends to foster elitism.
* If they are given out only during DM events, then they will be a little too rare. 99.9% of the player base will never know a unique item.

Hardly true for Dasaria, DMs tend to give out items to any players involved, and events have never had a level restriction to them. I took part in my first even with a level 7 character. While I did not get a unique item, we all did get XP and rewards.Forlorn wrote:* Usually these items are very powerful and therefore low to mid level PCs will never be able to access them.
Again, hardly the case on Dasaria. I know at least one DM who didn't even know me well at the time giving me a nice reward item. Then again, Dasaria has some very good DMs. Ironically, I never got a good reward item from the DMs I knew and would have considered friends... Yes, Wyvren, this means you, rather, I more likely got ambushed by Claw from him.* Dms will give a unique item only to a player(s) he/she likes. This tends to foster elitism.
ROFLMAO... once the DMs get out of building phase and get a good DM client, I expect they'll be throwing two to three events per week, at various times, double on weekends. Their plots tend to involve as much of the community as possible, and in fact, on Dasaria 1, I think that the majority of players probably had seen at least one unique item for one of their characters.* If they are given out only during DM events, then they will be a little too rare. 99.9% of the player base will never know a unique item.

Nah, I loved to make low level items, however the problem lies in characters trying to mule out their characters. When i would log on and see that the 10 level pc im about to interact with has gear all handed down from his pc who had to be 20th level just to earn it, it soured the experience.Forlorn wrote:While this is the currently most popular method of distributing unique items, I tend to see some drawbacks:Grayle wrote:Unique items are part of the Dasarian campaign. There isnt much a DM can do about the perception of favortism. The harder you try at times to avoid it, the louder the complaints of it become.
It would be nice if Unique items could be glued to characters, like WoW did with binded stuff.
Unique items are one of my favorate aspects of the game...not just the extremely powerful weapons and armor, but just random icon equipment that can live in the inventory. Holy symbols, cups, mirrors, ropes, etc with misc. effects that need not have much power at all.

I would like to this time name the unique items we send out for DM events, and when i find the named item of Bob's Razor on Jerry, friend of Bob, ask why it got there.Grayle wrote:It would be nice if Unique items could be glued to characters, like WoW did with binded stuff.

Locking a unique item to a player who recieved it through participating in a DM event doesn't sound bad to me at all.Zephis wrote:Uhm... I think your all starting to go a bit TO far.
Locking items to people... making things cursed... plot, changing all sorts of things... Just seems a bit to.. much to me.
I mean--does it make any sense for (using the example above!) Bob's Razor being handed over to Bob's alt, Jerry? I can't see how Jerry would have got it.
